ON TAP
The Titans complete their four-game swing through Ohio with a trip to Akron Saturday night.  Detroit will then play six of its next seven games at home in Calihan Hall, including the next four in an eight-night span.

SCOUTING AKRON
Akron dropped two games on the road, including a 62-59 loss to Valparaiso (Nov. 18) and an 81-76 decision to Duquesne (Nov. 19) to conclude the 2011 2K Sports Classic with a 2-2 record.  Sophomore forward Demetrius Treadwell was named to the Valparaiso Subregional All-Tournament team after averaging 11.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game in the two games at Valpo.

THE SERIES WITH THE ZIPS
The series is all-square at three wins apiece between the schools.  The all-time series dates back to the 1935-36 season.  Akron has won three of the last four meetings, with a 77-69 win at Calihan Hall last season (Dec. 1).

WHAT'S NEXT?
Detroit opens Horizon League play Thursday, hosting upstart Youngstown State.  The week continues with a big Saturday matinee against Cleveland State followed by the much-anticipated St. John's game Mon., Dec. 5 with the Dick Vitale Court dedication.

LAST TIME OUT
The Titans went 1-2 at the Progressive CBE Classic in Bowling Green, Ohio Nov. 21-23.  The Titans dropped decisions to George Washington (86-73) and the host Falcons (67-61) before a gutsy overtime win (94-93) over Austin Peay in the tourney finale.  Sophomore reserve forward Evan Bruinsma burst onto the scene, averaging 16.0 points and 9.5 rebounds over the final two games to earn a spot on the CBE Classic All-Tournament Team.

NICK MINNERATH SUFFERS SEASON-ENDING INJURY
Senior Nick Minnerath was injured in the fifth game of the year-- at Bowling Green State Tuesday.  Minnerath suffered the knee injury very early in the BGSU game and will not compete again this season, Coach McCallum confirmed Wednesday.

BRU'S CLUES
Sophomore Evan Bruinsma turned extended minutes into career performances in the final two games of the CBE Classic Tuesday and Wednesday.  With Minnerath going down to injury, Bruinsma played 30 minutes Tuesday at Bowling Green, easily the most in his career.  He took advantage by scoring a career-high 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting.  The following night, he scored 15 more points and crashed the glass with a career-best 12 rebounds to record his first-ever double-double.  He was the lone Titan named to the CBE Classic BGSU Subregional All-Tournament Team.

SIX OF ONE, HALF-DOZEN OF ANOTHER
Six different Titans scored in double figures in the blowout win over Concordia on Nov. 18.  What normally would be a rare occurance has happened twice already this season after six Detroit players scored at least 10 points in the overtime win over Austin Peay on Wednesday.  The Titans have achieved the feat three times in the last eight contests dating back to last season.

GRAND CLOSING
Senior Chase Simon closed-out the CBE Classic in style, knocking down a pair of free throws in the final seconds of overtime to ice a win over Austin Peay Wednesday.  Impressive enough in its significance, the points gave him exactly 1,000 in a Titan uniform becoming just the 35th Detroit player to reach that plateau at the school.  Simon has 1,098 collegiate points to his credit with this being his third season in a Detroit uniform following his freshman campaign at Central Michigan.

SHOTS FROM THE HEART
Head Coach Ray McCallum will participate in the second annual Shots From the Heart Tournament, benefitting the Skip Prosser Foundation. McCallum is competing in a 64-person, bracket-style single elimination free-throw shooting tournament with 63 other NCAA Division I head coaches. His first round opponent is John Groce of Ohio University. Each coach will shoot 25 free-throws at their convenience and report the results. First round competition will be complete at the end of November.  Follow detroittitans.com for updates on Coach Ray's progress in the tourney.  For more on the "Shots from the Heart", got to http://collegeinsider.com/shots.

QUITE A CENTURY MARK
Coach McCallum was on the sidelines for his 100th career game as the Titan head man Nov. 18 vs. Concordia.  Some highlights from the win:
*First 100-point game since 1998 (85th in UDM history)
*Highest point output (113) in 22 years
*Six players in double figures
*65 second-half points
*Eight players with at least nine points
*Chase Simon flirted with a triple-double (12 pts, 9 rbs, 8 assts)
*Doug Anderson had a double-double (12 pts, 13 rbs)
*Evan Bruinsma was one point shy of a double-double (9 pts, 10 rbs)

DICK VITALE COURT AT CALIHAN HALL TO BE DEDICATED DEC. 5
Dick Vitale, ESPN broadcaster, college basketball ambassador and former Titan head coach and athletic director, will be honored in December when the University of Detroit Mercy athletics department names its basketball court at Calihan Hall in his honor.  Dick Vitale Court at Calihan Hall will be dedicated in conjunction with a nationally-televised event against Big EAST foe St. John's on December 5, 2011 with tip at 7:00 p.m. on ESPN2.

Vitale will be celebrating his 32nd anniversary of calling games for ESPN at the event.  Vitale sat courtside for ESPN's first-ever NCAA basketball game – Wisconsin at DePaul on Dec. 5, 1979 (a 90-77 DePaul win).  Since then, he's called close to a thousand games, including NBA contests for ESPN during the 1983 and '84 seasons.
