DETROIT--  No. 17/16 Mississippi State held on for an 80-75 win over Detroit Saturday afternoon on Dick Vitale Court at Calihan Hall.  With the game tied 75-apiece with 19 seconds to play, Rodney Hood hit a jumper to put the Bulldogs on top for good.

Trailing by as many as 15 in the second half, the Titans (5-8) got a spark from their bench to run-off 10 straight points.  The run was started with six straight points by senior center Eli Holman, then a slick lay-up by freshman guard P.J. Boutte, part of his seven points on the game, to close the gap to 56-51.  After MSU (11-1) built the lead back to 11, Detroit again rattled-off a 12-2 run to get within a point with 3:54 to play.

A three from Ray McCallum started the spurt and another big three from the Preseason Horizon League Player of the Year later got it within a possession. Holman swatted MSU big man Renardo Sidney and then hit a layup in transition on the other end with three minutes to go making it a one-point game.   Detroit eventually tied the game on Chase Simon's three-point play with 2:31 to go.

McCallum re-tied the score at 75-all with 40 seconds left until Hood's bucket gave the Bulldogs the lead.  Detroit's final chance was thwarted when Arnett Moultrie blocked a shot and Dee Bost hit a pair of free throws to ice it.

McCallum and Simon each had 17 points to pace the Detroit attack.  Arnett Moultie and Brian Bryant also each scored 17 for the Bulldogs (11-1) while Sidney added 16.

Detroit finishes up the bulk of its non-conference schedule-- all except a February BracketBusters game-- when it hosts Alabama State Thursday at Calihan.  Tip is slated for 7:00 p.m. on the Horizon League Network.
