DETROIT -- The Detroit Titans women's basketball team will visit the Windy City this week for a pair of Horizon League games starting with a match-up against the UIC Flames on Thursday. Game time is set for 8:00 p.m (EST) at the UIC Pavilion.

With just four game left in the regular season, Detroit (11-14, 5-9 HL) is still in position to place as high as fifth in the Horizon League standings, which would give the Titans a bye in the play-in round of the Horizon League Championship.

The Titans will look for a little revenge against both of their opponents this weekend as the red, white and blue fell to UIC, 66-58, and to Loyola, 88-77 (OT), at home in late January. Detroit found its offense its last time out scoring 71 points in a tough 74-71 setback to Cleveland State. UDM had four players in double figures, led by sophomore Cherridy Thornton's 17 points.

DETROIT VS. UIC
The series has been dominated by runs with Detroit winning 15 of the first 20 games, then UIC claiming 11 of the next 14. Detroit has also won three of the last four meetings to take a 21-17 lead in the career match-up.

UDM is 7-7 on the road in the series, but last year's 64-61 victory at the UIC Pavilion broke a four-game losing skid in the Flames' home.

ABOUT THE FLAMES
UIC enters the game at 12-13 on the year and 7-7 in conference play. The Flames are currently fifth in the Horizon League standings, which would keep them out of the play in round.

The Flames have three players in double figures in scoring in Shameia Green (15.6), Briana Hinkle (12.9) and Taylor Foulks (10.0). Green is fifth in the HL in scoring, while Hinkle is third in assists (3.9). Jasmine Bailey is also among the team leaders averaging 9.3 points and 9.0 rebounds per game.

UIC has played .500 ball for much of the season never losing more than three in a row on the year, while also never winning more than two in a row.

LAST TIME VS. UIC
Junior Britney Murphy ended with a career-high 15 points, and sophomore Yar Shayok posted a double-double 12 points and 15 rebounds, but the Titans could not hold off UIC as the Flames captured a 66-58 victory on in Calihan Hall.

Sophomore Dominique Dixon added 14 makers and tallied a career-best eight boards, while junior Jalesa Jones finished with seven points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals.

Detroit was down by eight, 56-48, with less than four minutes to go when UDM staged its final charge. Murphy started the offense with a 3-pointer and after a Titan defensive stop, Jones went to the line and connected on two free throws.

A UIC bucket made it a five-point game with three minutes left and the Flames would work their advantage to nine, 62-53 at the 1:14 mark. But off a timeout, Dixon hit a three to get the Titans within six but that was as close as Detroit would get.

GOOD NUMBERS VS. UIC
Sophomore Yar Shayok is averaging 13,0 points and 11.6 rebounds per game in three career games against UIC. She has been in double figures in scoring twice as well as pulling down double-digit rebounds in two games.

Junior Lauren Allen missed the first game against UIC earlier in the year due to injury, but she had a pair of double-digit scoring outing against the Flames last year with 17 on the road and 10 at home.

Junior Jalesa Jones is tallying 8.8 ppg., 5.2 apg., and 4.0 rpg., in five career games, while sophomore Demeisha Fambro is averaging 9.6 points.

CLEANING UP THE GLASS
Sophomore Yar Shayok has now grabbed double-digit rebounds 15 times this season, and has just three games on the year where she has pulled down less than seven boards.

In her last 12 games, Shayok has seven double-doubles and is tallying 10.7 points, 12.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.

She is also shooting over 50 percent from the field hitting 46 of her 86 attempts.

She currently leads the HL in rebounding at 10.6 per game, a year after she was second in the conference at 9.7 rpg.

SHAYOK APPROACHING HISTORIC TITAN MARKS
If sophomore Yar Shayok can keep up her rebounding dominance, she is in line to become just the fifth Titan in school history to average double-digit boards, and the first since Cheryl Day accomplished the feat with a 10.9 tally in 1990.

The other three Titans who have reached that number are: Cheryl Williams - 14.4 (1982), 11.4 (1980) and 10.3 (1979), Yvette Harris - 13.7 in 1978 and Lydia Johnson - 11.7 in 1980

JONES NEARING ANOTHER MARK
Junior Jalesa Jones has 342 career assists and is now just six behind Katie Solner (2002-06) for seventh in Titan history.

Last season, the heady point guard put herself in the Detroit record books with 159 assists, the fourth-most in a season at UDM.

TITAN OFFENSE COMES ALIVE
Detroit totaled 71 points against Cleveland State its last time out, the first time in five games that UDM crossed the 60-point barrier.

It was the fifth time on the season that the Titans scored 70 or more in a game.

DIALING LONG DISTANCE
Detroit tied its school record with 30 3-point attempts against Cleveland State its last time out. UDM finished the game 9-of-30 from behind the arc.

The game marked the fifth time in school history Detroit attempted 30 triples, with the last time coming at home against Indiana State on Nov. 25, 2008 (8-of-30).

The Titans came close three other times this season ending with 29 attempts.

The nine 3-pointers were one away from a season high that UDM has set twice this year with 10 against Valpo and 10 at Milwaukee.
