Holman, McCallum Earn Horizon League Accolades

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.--  Junior Eli Holman (Richmond, Calif./Richmond/Indiana) and freshman Ray McCallum (Beverly Hills, Mich./Detroit Country Day) were each named to the All-Horizon League Second Team, according to a release by league officials Monday.  Holman was also named to the league's All-Defensive Team and McCallum grabbed the conference's top newcomer award.

Holman, who was also on the HL Preseason Second Team, led the circuit in rebounding with a 9.6 average per game.  He also posted a league-best 12 double-double games on the season and was fourth in blocked shots (1.6 rpg).  Holman won the Horizon League Player of the Week honor on Nov. 30 and was the Legends Classic Most Valuable Player while ushering Detroit to three wins in three days with a 17-point, 13-rebound average.

McCallum came into his freshman season with loads of hype and did not disappoint, leading his team in scoring in the regular season (13.5 ppg) while dishing-out the second-most assists (151) among all freshmen in NCAA Division I (to date).  His 31-point output at Eastern Michigan (Dec. 11) is the most by a Titan this season and he has game highs of 11 rebounds (at Central Michigan- Dec. 18) and 10 assists (twice).

The coach's son becomes the fifth Titan to win the Horizon League's Newcomer of the Year since 1993 and first since 2005 (Brandon Cotton).  He is the first true freshman to land on an all-league team in Detroit men's basketball history.

Detroit (15-14, 10-8 HL) has earned the fifth seed in the upcoming Horizon League tournament and will host a first round game at Calihan Hall Tuesday for the first time in five years.  The Titans entertain eighth-seeded Loyola in a 7:00 p.m. tip.  The winner will advance to play the winner of Valparaiso vs. Youngstown State in Milwaukee, Wis. on Friday.  Milwaukee earned the top seed in the tourney and will host both the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds, Mar. 4-5 with the top seed remaining playing host to the championship game on Mar. 8.
