VALPARAISO, Ind. -- Fresh of its 55-51 victory over Butler on Thursday, the Detroit women's basketball team will look to make it a sweep of Indiana on the week as the Titans square off against the Crusaders of Valparaiso on Saturday. Tip-off will be at 2:35 p.m. (EST) at the Athletics-Recreation Center (ARC).
Both the Titans and Crusaders are coming off much needed wins on Thursday as Valpo downed Wright State, 73-64,
Detroit now stands at 10-11 on the season and 4-6 in Horizon League action after dispatching of the second-place Bulldogs. Sophomore
Cherridy Thornton had 14 to lead UDM, while sophomore
Yar Shayok had 12 points and nine boards. It was a team effort all around in the triumph as all eight Titans that played scored a basket, pulled down a rebound and had an assist. In the game, Detroit totaled 16 assists on its 22 field goals.
The red, white and blue will also look for the season sweep as Detroit defeated Valparaiso, 68-52, in Calihan Hall back on Jan. 6.

DETROIT VS. VALPARAISO
With the 68-52 victory over Valparaiso back on Jan. 6, the Titans have now won four straight over the Crusaders and have a 7-4 ledger in the all-time series.
Detroit is also 4-1 against the Crusaders in the ARC.
ABOUT THE CRUSADERS
Valparaiso is 5-17 overall and 2-8 in the Horizon League, but Valpo has turned it on of late wins two wins in its last four games. VU is coming off a 73-64 win over Wright State, a game that the Crusaders led by as many as 18 midway through the first half.
The Crusaders other win in league play came at Loyola, 65-58.
Betsy Adams leads the team in scoring at 14.1 points per game, and had 15 against Detroit in the first meeting. Tabitha Gerardot tops the team in rebounding with 7.0 per game and is second on the team in scoring at 9.5 ppg.
LAST TIME VS. VALPARAISO
The Detroit women's basketball team got off to a fast start and never looked back as the Titans cruised to a 68-52 win over Valparaiso.
Sophomore
Cherridy Thornton led four Titans in double figures with 18 points.Sophomore
Yar Shayok recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. She also had a season-high four assists.
Thornton set a career high with five three-pointers, all in the first half, and had nine of the first 11 Titan points helping Detroit jump out to an 11-2 run in the first 4:11 of the game.
Thornton hit three more shots from long distance as Detroit built up a 24-9 lead with 7:39 left. Thornton had 12 of Detroit's first 19 points.
The second half saw Valparaiso start out with a 8-4 run in the first four minutes to close to within 11 points, 40-29, but Detroit put any hopes of a comeback away after that with an 11-2 spurt to go up by 19, 51-32.
GOOD NUMBERS VS. VALPO
Junior
Lauren Allen has netted double figures in scoring in three-straight against the Crusaders and is averaging 8.3 ppg., in five career meetings.

Jalesa Jones is tallying 7.4 points, 5.4 assists and 2.4 steals per game in five games, while sophomore
Yar Shayok is posting 10.3 points and 11.0 rebounds in three games against Valpo,
ALL GOOD THINGS MUST COME TO AN END
Sophomore
Yar Shayok saw her streak of five straight games with a double-double come to an end at Butler as she had 12 points and nine rebounds.
The five consecutive double-doubles she had and the five-straight game with double-digit rebounds were both a career-best.
Shayok now has six double-doubles in her last eight games and 18 in her career. She also has eight on the year with six in conference play. The eight double-doubles are tied for the second most in the Horizon League. A list of her career double-doubles is located on the next page.
She also became the first Titan to post at least four straight double-doubles since Molly Peterman did it during the 1998-99 season.
SHAYOK NOW 20TH IN REBOUNDING
Sophomore
Yar Shayok has been a rebounding machine lately with 10 or more rebounds in five-straight games. Shayok is now 20th in the nation in rebounding in the latest NCAA statistics, released on Friday, Feb. 4.
The Horizon League leader in rebounding, Shayok is averaging 10.3 per game with 12 double-digit rebounding games on the year.
As a team, Detroit is 53rd in the country averaging just 15.9 turnovers per game.
CLEANING UP THE GLASS
Sophomore
Yar Shayok has now grabbed double-digit rebounds 12 times this season, while collecting five or more on another eight occasions.
In her last eight games, Shayok is tallying 12.0 points, 12.1 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.9 steals per game. She is also shooting just over 50 percent from the field hitting 34 of her 65 attempts.
A few of her other big games include a season-high 18 points and 13 rebounds against Western Michigan, 14 boards at Michigan and 13 versus Saint Joseph's.
She currently leads the HL in rebounding at 10.2 per game, a year after she was second in the conference at 9.7 rpg.
HATTER'S MAKES THE MOST OUT OF HER FIRST START
Freshman
Megan Hatter made her first collegiate start in the Titans' 55-51 victory over Butler. Hatter, the sister of former Titan
Heather Hatter (2006-10), ending the game with a season-high five points - hitting her first two collegiate field goals including one from three - along with two assists in 20 minutes of action.
ONE EXTRA PASS
Detroit tallied 16 assists on its 22 field goals at Butler. The 16 helpers were the most since UDM had 22 against Valpo on Jan. 6.
NOW THAT'S TEAM WORK
In Detroit's 55-51 victory over Butler, all eight Titans that played scored a basket, grabbed a rebound and had an assist.
The team also played great defense holding Butler to 2-of-11 from three and outrebounding the Bulldogs, 32-25, including holding the home team to just two offensive boards.
