ON TAP

The Titans welcome the first-place Cleveland State Vikings into Calihan Hall Monday to put the finishing touches on a three-game homestand.  Detroit is looking to build a winning streak after consecutive impressive wins against UIC and Loyola.  CSU is fresh off a defeat at the hands of the Butler Bulldogs, but the Vikes still hold a half-game lead in the conference standings with five to play.

ABOUT CLEVELAND STATE
The Vikings are the first Horizon League team to 10 conference wins with a 10-3 league mark.  CSU is led by a senior guard who is atop the HL in scoring as Norris Cole averages 20.1 points per contest.  He also leads in steals (2.3) and assists (5.2) and has a dozen games with 20 or more points on the season.

LAST MEETING
Host Cleveland State used a late 15-1 run to erase a Titan lead to grab an 81-69 win at the Wolstein Center Jan. 20.  Detroit had a lead at the eight minute mark of the second half, but the Vikes went on the spurt to seal the victory.
What was a fast-paced game in the opening half turned into a physical affair in the second 20 minutes.  The teams combined for 35 personal fouls in the second half alone and nine players had at least four fouls as the game slowed after halftime.  Detroit (10-10, 4-4 Horizon League) gave away too many opportunities from the free throw line, making just 7-of-16 shots in the second half.  Conversely, CSU (17-3, 6-2) got to the line 30 times after the break and nearly half of its point total in the half came from the line (20 of 42).
UDM's Eli Holman had his ninth double-double of the season with his 16 points and 14 rebounds.  Nick Minnerath added 16 points and seven rebounds and Ray McCallum tallied 11 points and four assists.  Horizon League-leading scorer Norris Cole had 18 points and 11 assists for CSU while Trevon Harmon had a game-high 22 points.

“CHASE”-ING THAT 20-POINT PLATEAU
Junior Chase Simon enjoyed back-to-back 20+ point games to start this homestand.  Simon scored 20 while adding four assists and three steals in the win over UIC Thursday.  He then poured-in a season-high 28 on Saturday as the Titans downed Loyola.  Saturday's performance included six rebounds and a 7-for-8 effort from the free throw line.  Simon was 19-for-35 from the floor in the two games combined.

WHAT'S NEXT?
Detroit heads back to the road for its next two contests, swinging through Indiana for tilts at Valparaiso and Butler on Thursday and Saturday, respectively.  The Titans will play four of its final five regular season games away from the Motor City.

AMONG THE NATIONAL LEADERS
Several Titans have their names appear among the NCAA Division I leaders in the Feb. 3 report.  As the time of the release, junior Eli Holman had 10 double-doubles, which ranked 21st.  He also was 18th in rebounds per game (10.1).  LaMarcus Lowe was 18th in the NCAA with his 2.7 blocks per game clip.  Ray McCallum's 4.8 assists per game is 61st while Nick Minnerath cracked the report with his .833 free-throw percentage (90th).

LEADING THE LEAGUE
Eli Holman leads the Horizon League in both offensive (3.5 rpg) and defensive (6.5 rpg) rebounds per game (10.0 total).  He is also second in field goal percentage, connecting on 60.1 percent of his shots (107-of-178) and is 5th in blocks (1.6 bpg).

TOUGH ROAD
Detroit will have its work cut out for itself over the final three weeks of the regular season.  UDM has six games remaining, four away from home.  Included in the opponents are teams all ranked above Detroit in the current Horizon League standings (vs. #1 Cleveland State, at #2 Valpo, at #5 Butler, at #3 Wright State).

THE LOWE DOWN
Junior LaMarcus Lowe blocked two more shots in the Saturday's win, giving him 67 for the season.  Lowe's block total leads the Horizon League and he now has 16 games with multiple rejections this season.  He has 17 blocks in his last four games combined.
