Anderson Signs National Letter of Intent

DETROIT-- University of Detroit Mercy Head Men's Basketball Coach Ray McCallum announced the signing of Doug Anderson (Kalamazoo, Mich./Kalamazoo Central/Mott Community College) to a National Letter of Intent on the first day of the Spring signing period Wednesday.  Anderson led the Mott Bears to a runner-up finish at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) national championships this past season, part of two state titles at the Flint, Mich. school.

"We're excited about the addition of Doug Anderson to our team," said McCallum. "He's an outstanding young man that is a winner first of all.  He was runner-up to the state champions in high school.  He won two state titles at Mott College and was the national runner-up this past season.

"He's an explosive athlete that will only get better.  His versatility excites us with his ability to play all over the floor.  He's an in-state kid and we're establishing the tradition of bringing the best talent in this state to Detroit."

The high-flying Anderson averaged 15.5 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game in his sophomore campaign at Mott.  His 60.2 field goal percentage (222-of-369) was boosted by many athletic dunks, two of which were featured on ESPN's "Top 10 Plays" during his stint at MCC.  He was ranked in the top 40 of all 2011 JUCO recruits, according to rivals.com.

Anderson, who will have two years of eligibility remaining, will join a Titan team that did not have a graduating senior on its roster in 2010-11.  P.J. Boutte (Indianapolis, Ind./Howe) committed in the early signing period for Detroit.
