DETROIT -- Looking to add some size to its front line, the Detroit women's basketball team has signed Brie Wilcox (London ON/Sir Wilfrid Laurier Secondary School) to a National Letter of Intent, announced head coach Autumn Rademacher.
“Brie is what I call a diamond in the Canadian rough,” said coach Rademacher. “She is a 6'2 post player that also has perimeter skills. She runs the floor extremely well, always defends the opponent's best player inside, and can consistently make the outside shot. She was injured during a critical evaluation period last year and was not seen by collegiate coaches, but coach (Emily) Samuelson recently saw her play in an evaluation tournament and fortunately for us, she was still available.”
The 6-2 Wilcox has shined north of the border earning Senior and Junior basketball MVP honors. She was a four-time high school all-star, who was selected first team Ontario JUEL in 2011. A four-time team captain, she was a basketball Graduating Player of the Year finalist as she led her team in scoring.
She played travel for Team Ontario, leading the squad to the 2008 and 2011 US/Canada Border Challenge championship and an Ontario Basketball Association Division 1 bronze medal.
“I love the coaching staff and the team,” said Wilcox. “The fact that I have players and coaches that will push me in practices and ultimately making me develop as a player. I enjoyed the small campus and the location being so close to my family.”
“We feel tremendously lucky to have found Brie at the last waking moment and fully expect her to add to our depth in the post immediately. We are thrilled to announce Brie's signing and add the entire Wilcox family to the Detroit Titan women's basketball program,” added Rademacher.
