Titan Club to Host Basketball Camp for Special Needs Players

The Titan Club, along with Detroit Titan Athletics, will host the first Titan Club Basketball Camp for Special Needs Players on Monday, August 22, 2011.  A collaborative effort of the booster club, the Titan basketball programs, and Titan Athletics, this unique event will provide a great opportunity for special needs athletes of all ability levels to learn and develop skills in a fun environment.  The event will take place at both Calihan Hall and GESU elementary school (located across McNichols Road). Registration will begin at 8:00 AM, and the camp will run from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM.

Campers will receive basketball instruction, a tour of Calihan Hall, and will hear from members of the Detroit Titan Division I basketball programs. Any players 14 years of age and older may participate.  This camp is for persons with trainable mental impairment (TMI), educable mental impairment (EMI) & other developmental or physical disabilities.  Parents or guardians are welcome to stay on-site during the camp if they choose.

Registration for the special needs basketball camp costs just $15, which includes a camp T-shirt for the participant.  Fill out and return the registration form here to sign up a participant.

How to get involved:

Titan Club members and others who would like to help with the event can do so in a few ways.

·         Sponsor a camper for as little as $15, to defray the costs for families who may need financial assistance.

·         Volunteer at the event, in one of many needed capacities.  Return the volunteer registration form to Titan Athletics if you choose to sponsor or volunteer.

·         Help spread the word by passing the camp flyer on to any families you know who have special needs athletes.
