DETROIT -- A handful of Titan men's lacrosse players are putting up impressive numbers as they get ready for the 2012 season by playing summer lacrosse in the Ontario Junior Lacrosse League.
Three of the Titans are currently in the Junior “A” League, while a two are participating in the Junior “B” Division.
Playing for St. Catharines Athletics are sophomores
Joel Matthews (St. Catharines, ON/Holy Cross Secondary) and
Jordan Houtby (St. Catharines, ON/Holy Cross Secondary). The Titan duo has helped St. Catharines to a 10-5-1 season so far as they sit in third place, just three points out of second.
Matthews leads the team with 79 points on 53 assists and 26 goals. He currently ranks third in the league in points, second in assists and tied for 13th in goals. Houtby has tallied three goals and 11 assists for 14 points from his defensive position.
Freshman
Tom Masterson (London, ON/St. Thomas Aquinas CCS) is playing for the Kitchener-Waterloo Braves, where he is third on the team with 34 points on six goals and 28 assists. His 28 helpers are tied for 15th in Junior “A” as the Braves are in seventh place at 7-8, clinging to one of the two final playoff spots.
In the Ontario “B” League, junior
John Nowicki (Clinton Twp., MI/De La Salle) helped the Windsor Clippers to a Far West Division title and a berth to the playoffs. Nowicki has played in 13 games notching a goal and eight assists. Also playing in the same division for the London Blue Devils was
Alex Wilson (Boca Raton, FL/ Saint Andrews), who saw action in seven games scoring two goals and collecting four assists.
