INDIANAPOLIS -- Sophomore
Kaitlyn Quarrell (Thunder Bay, ON/St. Ignatius) was named the Horizon League Women's Soccer Player of the Week on Monday for her play over the last week. Quarrell was one of many Titans with a good week as Detroit went 3-0 over a six day span.
The Titans defeated Eastern Michigan 4-0 on Tuesday at home before winning 5-1 at IUPUI Friday night and 3-0 at Bowling Green Sunday.
Quarrell tallied three goals and an assist for seven points this week. Her first point was an assist on the third Titan goal against Eastern Michigan on Tuesday. She added a pair of goals in Detroit's five goal first half at IUPUI on Friday and her third goal of the year (Detroit's second of the day) against Bowling Green on Sunday.
Quarrell has now scored seven goals in her last seven games and eight overall in her last 10 contests. In the last four games of 2010, she scored the last four goals for Detroit and has three of the team's 12 tallies in 2011. Overall, she has seven of the last 16 Titan goals (44%). With an assist this year, she has been part of 50% of the team's last 16 goals.
Her seven points give her a share of the team lead with junior
Sarah Dzuris (Rochester Hills, MI/Rochester) who also has seven points. Dzuris, Quarrell, and senior
Lauren Roffey (West Bloomfield, MI/West Bloomfield) all have three goals and sit in a three-way tie for the team lead and tied for second in the conference. Sophomore
Abby McCollum (La Salle, MI/Monroe) was also was a major contributor for the offense this past week as she had a three-assist game against both Eastern Michigan and Bowling Green and currently sits atop the Horizon League with six assists.
Quarrell is the first Titan to capture the weekly award since senior
Alexandra Suschak (Broadview Heights, OH/Brecksville Broadview Heights) took home the honor on Monday, August 30 of last year.
The next game for Detroit will be this Wednesday as the Titans will play at Marygrove at 4:00 p.m.
