RENO, Nev. -- Sophomore
Kaitlyn Quarrell (Thunder Bay, ON/St. Ignatius), junior
Sarah Dzuris (Rochester Hills, MI/Rochester) and senior
Alyssa Korson (Suttons Bay, MI/Lake Leelanau St. Mary's) of the women's soccer team were all named to the All-Tournament team for the two-game Wolf Pack Invitational hosted by the University of Nevada in Reno, Nevada this past weekend.
The team, as determined by the coaches, was announced Tuesday afternoon and Quarrell, Dzuris and Korson were all recognized. The Titans (4-2-1) finished with a 0-0 tie in double overtime to UNLV on Friday and fell in defeat 2-0 to Portland State on Sunday afternoon.
“These girls were all good for us this weekend and they worked hard for 90 or more minutes in each game. Even though we didn't come home with a win, they played hard and gave it their all and created opportunities for us,” said head coach
Mike Lupenec.
Quarrell had two shots on the weekend while Dzuris took Detroit corner kicks from the left side of the field from the midfield position. The Titans held a 12-7 advantage in corner kicks in the two games including 9-2 against UNLV on Friday.
Korson shifted from her normal defensive position to play up top and finished with a share of the team lead with four shots, including two on goal and three total shots against UNLV.
Friday's 0-0 contest against UNLV was the first overtime period Detroit has played this season after finishing with five tie games in 2010.
Detroit will host Madonna Thursday at Titan Field. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
