THE DETROIT-MILWAUKEE SERIES
After dropping seven in a row against the Panthers, UDM has won four of the last five meetings, but Milwaukee still leads the overall series, 22-18. Last year, the teams split the season series with UDM taking a 90-76 victory on the road, while Milwaukee won 65-55 in Detroit.
The Titans have also won two of the last three meetings in Detroit as the teams have split 18 career match-ups in the Motor City.
ABOUT THE PANTHERS
Milwaukee has lost three in a row and six of its last eight and enters the game at 4-9, 0-3 in the Horizon League. The Panthers are playing their first road game since Dec. 11 - a span of five games - but that comes after opening the season with six of their first eight on the road.
Milwaukee has faced two common non-conference opponents with Detroit losing to Michigan State at home, 70-57, and at Western Michigan, 69-63. The Panthers have also faced two top-ranked teams falling to No. 1 Baylor, 72-41, and No. 24/23 Oklahoma, 72-50.
Courtney Lindfors leads the team in scoring at 14.4 per night, to go with 6.2 rebounds.
Sami Tucker is tallying 11.0 points and a team-best 7.5 rebounds per game, while Angela Rodriguez is also averaging 11.0 ppg.
Milwaukee was tabbed to finish sixth in the league's preseason poll.
OFF TO A GOOD START
Detroit's 3-1 mark in the Horizon League is UDM's best start in the conference since starting out 5-1 during the 2009-10 campaign.
GOOD NUMBERS VS. MILWAUKEE
Senior
Lauren Allen is tallying 9.6 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in six career games. She also has three double-digit scoring games, including twice posting her career high of 19 against the Panthers. As a sophomore, she recorded a 19-point, eight-assist, seven-rebound game in a 72-65 win over UWM.
Junior
Yar Shayok is averaging 12.2 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.7 steals and 1.5 assists per game in four career games against Milwaukee. She has netted double figures in three games and has pulled down at least eight rebounds in three contests. She also posted her career high of six steals as a redshirt freshman in 2010.
BROWN BREAKS FRESHMAN SCORING RECORD
Freshman
Shareta Brown did more than just lead the Titans to a victory at Loyola, she also broke the school's single-game scoring record for a freshman with 31 points.
The 31 points are the most by a Horizon League Player on the year, topping UIC's Jasmine Bailey, who has a pair of 30-point games.
The previous record for a freshman was 30 by Michelle DeHaan on Jan. 15, 1994 at Evansville.
With 16 games in the books, Brown has already scored 253 points and seems well on her way of challenging the Titan freshman records for points in a season, held by Hall-Of-Famer Cassandra Pack, who tallied 453 in just 26 games (17.4 ppg.) during the 1983-84 season.
SUPER FROSH
Freshman
Shareta Brown continues to impress during her rookie year as she is coming off a season-high 31 points at Loyola.
The game marked the 13th time this season she was in double figures in scoring as well as the fourth time she crossed the 20-point plateau.
Brown also became just the 16th player in school history to score 31 or more in a game.
She is currently tied for second in the Horizon League with six double-doubles and is also third in scoring (15.8), field-goal percentage (55.1%) and eighth in rebounding (8.6).
BROWN HONORED AGAIN
It was another dominating performance for super freshman
Shareta Brown and the league once again took notice as the rookie was tabbed the Horizon League Co-Player of the Week.
Brown shares the award with Green Bay's senior forward Julie Wojta.
She helped the Titans split a pair of games in Chicago by averaging 22.0 points and 10 rebounds, while shooting 62.5% from the field and 77.7% at the charity stripe.
She posted a double-double with a season-high 31 points and 11 rebounds at Loyola and had 13 points and nine boards at UIC.
It is the second time this season Brown has received the honor as she was named the Player of the Week on Dec. 5, while it is the third time this season a Titan has won the accolade as sophomore
Senee Shearer (Detroit, MI/Pershing) claimed the honor on Dec. 27.
TWO TITANS WITH DOUBLES
Junior
Yar Shayok and freshman
Shareta Brown each recorded a double-double in the win at Loyola as Shayok had 10 points and 15 rebounds, while Brown ended with 31 points and 11 boards.
It was the first time a pair of Titans posted a double-double in the same game since Feb. 21, 2004, when Nicole Anaejionu (10pts., 14 rebs.) and Lindsey Pasquinzo (18 pts., 11 rebs.) accomplished the task in a win at Cleveland State.
HIGH 5
Detroit scored 76 points in a 10-point triumph at Loyola and did so with just six players scoring.
UDM had five players in double figures, led by
Shareta Brown's 31 points. Sophomore
Senee Shearer had 13 points, while seniors
Lauren Allen and
Jalesa Jones and junior
Yar Shayok each netted 10 apiece. Sophomore
Megan Hatter was the only other Titan to score adding two points.
It was the first time the red, white and blue had five players in double figures since Feb. 27, 2010, in an 80-62 win at Youngstown State.
GETTING OFFENSIVE
The Detroit offense has really taken off in the last seven games, averaging 72.6 points per game and scoring 70 or more in five of the seven affairs.
In Detroit's first nine games, it was averaging just 57.1 points per game.
During this run, UDM is shooting 46.3% from the field (180-of-389) and 72.2% from the charity stripe (104-of-144).
Also during this stretch, the Titans tallied a season-best 90 points against IPFW on Dec. 18, shooting a school record 65.5% in the process. UDM connected on 38-of-58 shots, including 22-of-29 (75%) in the second half.
The 90 points (53 in the second half) were the most by Detroit since posting 90 in a winning effort at Milwaukee last season and the most UDM has scored at home since a 94-67 victory against Cleveland State on Jan. 12, 2002.
It is also the second most by a Horizon League team this season.
On the season, UDM is fourth in the Horizon League in scoring at 63.9 points per game.
CAREER DOUBLE-DOUBLE #21
Junior
Yar Shayok posted her 21st career double-double with 10 points and a season-high 15 rebounds at Loyola.
It was her first double-double of the season and the first since she tallied one at Loyola last year.
TITANS' MAGIC NUMBER?
In an interesting stat, the Titans are now 5-0 on the year and 22-8 in games when senior
Lauren Allen has reached double digits in scoring.
Out of her 21 career double-doubles, four have been against the Ramblers.
TITANS AT CALIHAN HALL
The Titans were 7-7 at home last year and are 4-2 this season and 20-10 in their last 30 home games.
UDM has a 28-21 ledger in Calihan Hall since head coach Autumn Rademacher returned to her alma mater in 2008.
In 34 years of play in the Motor City, the Titans have enjoyed a 256-142 (.634) home court record.
During the 2009-10 season, UDM was 10-6 at home, including 8-1 in conference play.
Away from Calihan, Detroit has posted a 248-339 all-time record.
GAME # 1000 APPROACHING
It is year 34 of Titan basketball and the history is quickly reaching 1,000 as the Titans will play in their 991st career game against Milwaukee.
As long as there are no cancellations or reschedules, Detroit is set to play its 1,000 career game at Wright State on Feb. 16.
UDM is 508-482 in its history, which started on Dec. 1, 1977 with an 82-29 victory over Olivet at home.
The Titans have had 19 winning seasons, including six 20-win campaigns.
They have won two Horizon League titles, including the 1997 MCC Championship, which sent the red, white and blue to its only NCAA Tournament.
