Another day of celebration for women athletics is nearing as the Detroit Athletic Department will participate in National Girls & Women in Sport Day on Feb. 4. The day will feature a series of clinics in a number of sports and highlighted by free admission to the Titans' women's basketball game against UIC later in the day.
 
The 2012 version of National Girls and Women in Sports Day will celebrate 26 years of an annual event that brings attention to the success of Title IX and the thousands of opportunities it has provided young girls in the United States since its enactment in 1971.
 
"This is always a great event for all female sports and female athletes in Michigan," said UDM Associate Athletic Director and Senior Woman Administrator Teri Kromrei. "It really shows the importance that sports can play in the lives of young girls and all the opportunities that athletics truly represents."
 
All girls ages 6 through 13 are invited to be part of this exciting day of athletics and appreciation, with FREE TICKETS to all for the women's game that follows.
 
The event begins at 11:00 a.m., with sports stations that will be set-up throughout Calihan Hall. All the sports stations will have Titan student-athletes from nearly all of UDM's varsity teams help provide skill instruction and hands-on demonstrations in a clinic-like setting.
 
Not only will the Titan student-athletes be on hand, but the UDM strength and conditioning coaches will be there to provide information on healthy lifestyle choices, fitness, and nutrition for young women.
 
In addition, the Titan spirit groups will help all of the participants learn a few new moves and give a rousing halftime performance at the women's game.
 
Following the sports clinic, all of the participants can watch for free as the Titan women's basketball team battles UIC in a Horizon League showdown at 2:00 p.m.
 
The cost of the program is FREE, and all participants will receive a complimentary t-shirt & lunch.
 
 As part of the festive day, the women's basketball game that follows will be FREE TO ALL FANS.
 
For parents and guardians, while your young ones are busy taking in all of the activities, you are invited to go up to the Titan Club for light refreshments.
 
Registration for the events starts at 10:00 a.m. To register, please fill out the attached flyer and mail it back to Titan Athletics by Jan. 30^th.
