Video Interview With Lavita-Stephens On TitansTV
DETROIT (10/19/2012) -- The end of the third week of practice is nearing for the Detroit women's basketball team and while there is still 10 days left before the first exhibition, UDM has accomplished a lot so far in the preseason.
According to freshman guard
Destiny Lavita-Stephens, the Titans have done a lot during these three weeks, focusing on all aspects of the game.
“The energy has been alive and we are just working hard getting ready for our first game,” said Lavita-Stephens. “Offense, defense, playing hard, hustling and conditioning have all been our main emphasis.”
Detroit is looking to tighten up all the wrinkles and integrate eight letterwinners and six newcomers, including three freshmen guards. UDM was picked to finish second in the Horizon League preseason poll and garnered two first place votes.
The Titans were 20-14 last year and 14-4 in the conference, good for second place. The 2011-12 campaign saw UDM defeat nationally-ranked Green Bay on the road and reach the title game of the Horizon League Championship.
The Titans will host a pair of exhibition games before the start of the regular season as Detroit plays Lawrence Tech on Oct. 29 and Marygrove on Nov. 5. UDM's season opener is set for Nov. 9 when the red, white and blue make the short trek to Ann Arbor to battle Michigan.
