URBANA, Ill. (10/19/12) - The University of Detroit Mercy women's tennis team continued play in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) Midwest Regional Tournament on Friday at the University of Illinois.
Valeryia Kulikouskaya just missed out on the main draw of singles as she fell in the final qualifying match, 6-4, 7-6 (5), to Margharita Sadounikova of Youngstown State.
Also in singles action,
Chloe Karoub lost to NIU's Mary Malkin, 7-6, 6-3, and
Raina Halabi dropped a match to WMU's Kathleen Hawkins, 6-0, 6-2.
In doubles,
Nino Sujashvili and
Julia Fernandes defeated Alexandra Bush and Kara Sherwood from Cleveland State, 8-3, but later fell to Jasmin Kling and Carolin Neumann of DePaul, 9-7.
Elena Strakhova and Kulikouskaya also lost a close affair as the Titan duo dropped a 9-7 contest to Eastern Michigan's Diana Davitaia and Nino Mebuke, while Karoub and Halabi fell to the pair of Hawkins and Caroline Aleck from WMU, 8-2.
The tournament will continue on Saturday with both singles and doubles competition.
