DETROIT (11/15/2012) -- The Titan women's basketball team keeps getting richer as UDM head coach Autumn Rademacher has announced the signings of
Minisha Frederick-Childress (North Mankato, Minn./Mankato East),
Megan Galloway (Greenville, Ohio/Greenville) and
Haleigh Ristovski (Sterling Heights Mich./University Liggett) to a National Letter of Intent. All three will enroll as freshmen next season.
Frederick-Childress is a 5-4 point guard originally from Flint before moving to Minnesota and lettering in basketball and soccer for Mankato East High School. She has earned honorable mention All-State as well as All-City and All-Big 9 as a sophomore and junior and was tabbed one of the top 50 seniors in the state by
Minnesota Hoops.
“Minisha is a lightning quick guard who is an unbelievable playmaker,” said Coach Rademacher. “She loves to distribute the ball and will definitely leave her mark in the state of Minnesota in the assist category when she graduates. She is an aggressive defender who puts extreme pressure on any ball handler, and can also hit the outside shot. “
She has led the state in assists for the last two seasons and is currently her school's all-time assists leader with 512. She is averaging 9.1 assists per game with her career high of 17 as a sophomore, while tallying three 13-assist efforts last year. She can also score averaging 12.7 ppg., in her career, including 33 as a freshman at Flint Northwestern, 29 as a sophomore and 21 last season.
She has played AAU with the Flint Area Basketball Club (FABC), Lady Mavericks, Lady Shock, Lady Kanes and the Minnesota Stars.
“She will challenge for point guard minutes immediately,” added Coach Rademacher.
Galloway is a 6-2 post player who has lettered in basketball and volleyball. She has been a scholar athlete all four years and was tabbed Second Team Greater Western Ohio Conference (GWOC) as a sophomore after leading her team in rebounding and scoring. As a junior, she was having a tremendous year averaging 21 points, 15 rebounds and five blocks before a foot injury ended her season.
“Megan is a post player that does a great job of making her presence known inside,” Coach Rademacher noted. “She is very physical and has a great touch around the basket. She is a skilled passer and loves to get offensive rebounds.”
She played AAU with the Dayton Metros for four years, helping the squad to a sixth-place finish at the nationals in 2011 as well as a Music City Madness Championship and a United States Junior Championship (USJN) at Toledo this past summer.
Off the court, she is a member of the student council, Book Club, Homecoming Court and Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD).
“She will give us much needed depth in the paint when forward
Yar Shayok graduates,” said Coach Rademacher.
Ristovski is a 5-10 shooting guard who has earned four letters each in cross country and basketball. She was named All-State as a sophomore and junior, helping University Liggett to back-to-back Class C State Championship appearances as well as three-straight conference titles. So far in her prep career, she is averaging 15.2 points, 8.3 rebounds and 3.6 steals per game.
“Haleigh is one of the purest three-point shooters I have seen on the recruiting trail. She is also extremely intelligent on the floor, has great court awareness, and is a phenomenal defender,” said Coach Rademacher.
Her all-around game was displayed in last year's state tournament when she tallied a game-high 22 points - including six three-pointers, the second highest in tournament history – against Concord in the semifinals and nine steals – the second most in a championship game in state history – against Morley-Stanwood. She is the sister of current Michigan freshman and 2012 Miss Basketball Michigan Madison Ristovski.
In cross country, she was the team MVP as a senior and was a three-time state qualifier.
“She can defend every position on the court and I fully expect her to earn significant playing time right away,” added Coach Rademacher.
Detroit will return to action on Sunday when the Titans hit the road to battle the Eagles of Eastern Michigan. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m., at the EMU Convocation Center.
