This year's bus schedule includes a trip to BIG EAST opponent Pittsburgh as well as local rival Bowling Green along with three Horizon League opponents in Cleveland State, Valparaiso and UIC. Each bus trip includes ground transportation from Calihan Hall along with a reserved game ticket (Pittsburgh game ticket is separate). Included this year is an overnight bus trip to Pittsburgh, Pa., for the non-conference men's basketball match-up with the Pittsburgh Panthers and then heading to Athens, Ohio, to see the women's team battle the Ohio Bobcats.

LAST TIME OUT
Junior Ray McCallum scored a team-high 25 points, but it wasn't enough as the Titans dropped their third straight game on the road, 70-65, to Bowling Green Tuesday night at the Stroh Center.

McCallum shot 10-for-18 from the field to record his fourth 20-point performance of the young season, and 18th of his career, while also grabbing a team-high seven rebounds. Senior Nick Minnerath also had a strong performance with 17 points, 9-for-11 from the charity stripe, while classmate Doug Anderson scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds.

Detroit (2-3) outrebounded BGSU, 36-30, and forced 10 turnovers, but the Falcons shot 45.8 percent from the field, while holding the Titans to just 37.5 percent. The Falcons also shot 9-for-22 from downtown, while holding Detroit to a season low 3-for-17 from beyond the arc. The Titans did make a season-high 20-of-25 free throw attempts in the game.

BGSU (3-3) was led by Jordon Crawford who scored a game-high 26 points on 9-for-16 from the floor, including 5-for-10 from downtown, while A'uston Calhoun scored nine points and Chauncey Orr pitched in eight.

SERIES WITH PITT
This will be the second meeting between Detroit and Pittsburgh, with the Titans owning a 1-0 lead in the series. Detroit won the first meeting, 86-60, at the Motor City Classic in 1970.

ABOUT THE PANTHERS
Lamar Patterson and Tray Woodall scored 15 points each and Pittsburgh pulled away from Howard in the second half for a 70-46 victory on Tuesday night. Talib Zanna added 12 points and eight rebounds and freshman point guard James Robinson had 11 points and eight assists for the Panthers (6-1), who had little trouble against the overmatched Bison (1-6) after a lethargic first half.

Zanna leads Pitt in scoring and rebounding with 13.3 points and 6.0 rebounds per game, while Woodall is averaging 12.7 points and 6.0 assists per game. Also scoring in double figures per game for the Panthers is J.J. Moore (11.3).

Pitt returns three starters and seven of its top-nine scorers from the 2011-12 squad, which finished 22-17 and won the College Basketball Invitational (CBI) title. The Panthers were picked to finish sixth in the BIG EAST this season in the preseason media poll, while freshman center Steven Adams was picked as the league's preseason Rookie of the Year and senior guard Tray Woodall earned BIG EAST honorable mention honors.

DETROIT LOVES THE 80's
This season the Titans are a perfect 2-0 when scoring 80 or more points and have extended their winning streak to 16 games when doing so. Last year Detroit finished undefeated (9-0) when reaching the 80-point mark. The Last time the Titans lost a game when scoring 80 points or more came at Milwaukee during the 2010-11 season, when the Panthers won in overtime 84-81.

LEADING THE LEAGUE
Two Titans are currently leading the Horizon League in scoring and rebounding, and are also among the leaders in other four other categories. Ray McCallum leads the League in scoring with 20.6 points per game, which is nearly three points higher than second place. He is also among the top-10 in steals (2.0 spg, second), assists (3.8 apg, sixth) and field goal percentage (50.0 percent, seventh). Doug Anderson leads the HL in rebounds with 8.2 per game, while also sitting fifth with a 46.2 three-point field goal percentage.

2-3 NOT BAD?
Following the Titans loss at Bowling Green on Tuesday, Detroit has posted a 2-3 record for the third-straight season. The last two years the Titans have recovered just fine by winning 60 percent of their remaining games, including the postseason. Detroit has finished at or above .500 four out of the last five times it has started a season 2-3.

CLIMBING THE CHARTS
Detroit junior Ray McCallum currently leads the Titans in three categories this season scoring (20.6 ppg), assists (3.8 apg) and steals (2.0 spg) and is also climbing up the career record board in all three. McCallum has 1,104 points (30th), 323 assist (13th) and 121 steals (16th) in his career. The last Titan to rank among the top-10 in all three of those categories was Rashad Phillips '01. Phillips finished his spectacular career with 2,319 points (1st), 548 assists (4th) and 190 steals (2nd). McCallum needs 498 points, 18 assists and 19 steals to reach that plateau.

TITANS ON REGIONAL/NATIONAL TELEVISION
The Titans 2012-13 men's basketball television schedule recently grew with the addition of three FOX Sports Detroit broadcasts. FSD, the same station that carries the “Detroit Titan Court Report” along with Detroit Pistons, Tigers and Red Wings games, will once again partner with the Titans to strengthen one of the more impressive television packages in the Horizon League.

Those games bring the total number of regional and national televised appearances to 14, including a minimum of 10 on the ESPN family of networks and one Horizon League "Game of the Week". The three-game slate on FSD begins Dec. 15 when the Akron Zips visit Calihan Hall for a noon tip.  More than a month later, the Titans face conference rival UIC with a 6:30 p.m. match-up on Jan. 19, before hosting Loyola at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 26.

McCALLUM NAMED TO THE WOODEN AWARD PRESEASON TOP 50
Detroit junior guard Ray McCallum was named to the John R. Wooden Award Preseason Top 50 list, according to a release. The list recognizes the top-returning players in all of college basketball (transfers, freshmen and medical redshirts are not eligible for the preseason list).

The Los Angeles Athletic Club compiles the list, which is chosen by a preseason poll of national college basketball media members.  Each year these 50 student-athletes who, based on last year's individual performance and team records, are the early frontrunners for college basketball's most prestigious honor (although you do not have to be listed to qualify for the postseason award).

McCallum, the Horizon League preseason Player of the Year and first team selection for the second-straight season, was named the Horizon League Tournament MVP last year after he helped lead the Titans to the League crown and their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1999. McCallum led the team in scoring (15.4 ppg), assists (4.0 apg) and steals (1.6 spg) for the second-straight season.

O CAPTAINS! DETROIT CAPTAINS!
Detroit Titans head men's basketball coach Ray McCallum announced that senior forward Nick Minnerath along with junior guards Jason Calliste and Ray McCallum have been selected as team captains for the 2012-13 season.

Minnerath is one of only two seniors on the team and is returning to lineup after missing a majority of the season last year due to injury. Minnerath the 2010-11 Titans co-MVP averaged 11.2 points and 4.8 rebounds per game as a junior, including six 20-point games over the final two months of action. Calliste, the team's sharp-shooter, led the squad in three-pointers made (56) and three-point percentage (34.4) and finished the season starting 34 games and averaging 10.2 points per game. McCallum had a tremendous sophomore season earning a host of accolades and honors. He was named the Robert Calihan Team MVP and an All-Horizon League First Team selection - the first by a Titan since 2003 - as well as the Horizon League Championship MVP.

TITANS PICKED SECOND
The UDM men's basketball team was picked to finish second in the Horizon League preseason poll voted on by the league's coaches, sports information directors and media members. The reigning HL Tournament Champions totaled 332 points – including four first-place votes – trailing only Valparaiso's 382 points and 40 first-place selections. Green Bay was picked to finish third with 283 points, while Youngstown State was fourth with 243 and Cleveland State fifth tallying 230. Rounding out the poll was Milwaukee (178), Loyola (105), UIC (96) and Wright State (86).

McCALLUM NAMED HL PRESEASON POY
Junior guard Ray McCallum was named the Horizon League Preseason Player of the Year for the second-straight season, following a super sophomore year.

McCallum, the Horizon League Tournament MVP last year, helped lead the Titans to the League crown and their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1999. He was named to the Lou Henson All-America team as well as the National Basketball Coaches Association (NBCA) All-District First Team and the National All-Jesuit Team after a superb season that saw him become the 37th Titan to surpass 1,000 career points and the first to do it as a sophomore.
