MACON, Ga. (11/7/2012) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team finished with a perfect 2-0 record in the preseason and capped that off by receiving votes in the CollegeInsider.com Men's Mid-Major Top 25 released this week.
The Mid-Major Poll is made up of teams from the following conferences: America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Great West, Horizon, Independents, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt, West Coast.
The Titans totaled 117 points in this year's first edition of the poll, which is the second most in receiving votes. Detroit is also one of just three Horizon League teams represented as Valparaiso was ranked 21st and Cleveland State received three votes.
Detroit was picked to finish second in the Horizon League Preseason Poll back in early October, garnering 332 points – including four first-place votes – trailing only Valparaiso's 382 points and 40 first-place selections. Rounding out the poll was Milwaukee (178), Loyola (105), UIC (96) and Wright State (86).
The Titans won last year's Horizon League Championship and finished third during the regular season with a 22-14 record, including an 11-7 mark in the conference. Detroit returns eight letterwinners and three starters from that squad, including HL Preseason Player of the Year
