Horizon League Release
INDIANAPOLIS (12/3/2012) -- For the second time this season – and sixth of her career – Titan sophomore
Shareta Brown took home a weekly conference accolade as she was tabbed the Horizon League Player of the Week on Monday, announced the conference office. She was selected the Co-HL Player of the Week back on Nov. 19.
Brown led the Titans to a pair of double-digit victories last week in averaging 27.0 points, 13.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.5 blocks as Detroit blasted Western Michigan (97-57) and won at Ohio (65-53). She also shot 61.3% from the field hitting 19-of-31 shots.
She started the week with a huge performance against WMU tallying a career-high 35 points – her second 30-point game of the season – while adding 11 rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals in just 25 minutes of action. She was unstoppable on the court connecting on 12-of-18 field goals and 11-of-14 from the free throw line.
Brown followed that with another double-double – her third of the season and 15th of her career – as she posted 19 points and tied her season high with 15 rebounds at Ohio. When she wasn't scoring, she helped the team in a number of different ways setting season highs with six assists and three blocks.
It is the sixth time in her career that she has earned the weekly honor and after last week's performance, Brown will mostly likely move up in the national rankings in scoring, rebounding and field-goal percentage. She was 11th in points, 71st in field-goal percentage and 95th in rebounding when the NCAA released its weekly statistics last Monday (Nov. 26).
