MATCH RESULTS
FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The women's tennis team finished up its weekend road trip 2-0 after a second 4-3 win Saturday evening. After a 4-3 win over IPFW, Friday, the Titans (2-5) came back against Chicago State (1-9) this time around as
Raina Halabi gave Detroit its clinching point playing in the No. 1 singles position.
Halabi was the last singles match to be completed on Saturday and needed a third set to dispose of her opponent and secure the team win. Halabi jumped out in front with a 6-1 first set win before the score was evened in the second set forcing the third and final set. A 6-4 final frame in favor of Detroit was the final result and the Titans had their second straight defeat.
"It was another good win for our team. The ladies have worked hard in practice and it is nice see our results of that come during our matches," said head coach Pjotrs Necajevs. "We started very slow in one of the doubles today and came under heavy pressure. However, we came back strong in singles with Raina at the No. 1 spot in the deciding match, as she was able to execute under the pressure and clinch the third set."
In doubles, the Titans fought for one win in the No. 2 hole as
Chloe Karoub and
Julia Fernandes won their second straight doubles match together with an 8-1 smattering of their Cougar opponents.
In singles, Karoub captured another point as her opponent was forced to retire.
Elena Strakhova and Fernandes each won their second straight singles matches as Strakhova won in the No. 4 position in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2. Fernandes then won her match-up in fine fashion not allowing a point with a 6-0, 6-0 victory.
The final point came from Halabi as she won her first ever match in the No. 1 singles position.
