DETROIT -- The 2012-13 season might be just a few months away, but that didn't stop UDM head coach Ray McCallum from thinking about the future as he announced that former University of Michigan player and top 75 recruit Carlton Brundidge (Southfield, MI/Southfield) has transferred to the University of Detroit Mercy. Brundidge will sit out the upcoming season due to NCAA transfer rules and will have three years of eligibility left.

“He is a very talented player,” said Coach McCallum. “He is a player that we have watched during our time at Detroit. The thing I like about Carlton the most is that he has a great love and passion for the game and is a winner. As we continue to grow and build our program, you want good guys and that is what he has proven to be.”

A 6-1, 190-pound guard, Brundidge played in 15 games for the Wolverines as a freshman – all as a reserve – and averaged 0.4 points and 0.5 rebounds in 2.9 minutes per game.

Prior to enrolling at U-M, Brundidge starred at Southfield High School and was one of the most sought after players in the state as well as in the country, finishing fourth for the Hal Schram Mr. Basketball award in 2011. He averaged 20.9 points, 6.6 rebounds and 4.8 assists in his prep career, guiding the Bluejays to back-to-back 20-win seasons, District 24 and Regional 8 titles as well as two-straight trips to the MHSSA Class A State Final Four.

“He has the ability to score and make guys better and he is going to be a valuable player for us this year in practice and in the future once he gets out on the court,” said McCallum. “He is a local kid and lives about 15 minutes away from campus and it is great for him that his family and supporters can come here and watch him continue to grow and develop as a basketball player.”

ESPN listed him as a four-star recruit and 75th in the nation in 2011 as well as No. 16 regionally and No. 20 at his position. Rivals had him at four stars as well and ranked him 106th, while Scout.com was another publication with four star accolades.

Brundidge earned Associated Press Class A All-State first team as a senior, special mention as a junior and honorable mention in 2009. He was tabbed to the Detroit Free Press Class A All-State Team three times -including first team as a senior – and was also named to the Detroit News Class A All-State Dream Team in 2011, and third team in 2010. Other honors he earned included the Detroit Free Press All-Metro first team (2011) and second team (2010), Detroit Free Press All-North first team (2009-11) and honorable mention (2008) and Detroit News All-North first team (2010 & 2011) and second team (2009).

After averaging 14.7 points as a freshman, he ended his high school career with three-straight years tallying 20+, including 24.5 as a sophomore, 24.0 as a junior and 20.4 as a senior. He also added 8.4 rebounds and 5.0 assists as a senior and 8.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists as a junior.

UDM is coming off a 22-win season and a Horizon League Championship, where the Titans earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament, falling to national runner-up Kansas. The 22 wins this past season was tied for sixth all-time in school history and also marked the second 20-win campaign in Coach McCallum's four years.
