The Titan Club – a booster organization for Detroit Titan Athletics - hosted its 2nd Annual Titan Club Basketball Camp for Special Needs players on Monday at Calihan Hall.

Forty-five participants were joined by their families, friends, and many Titan Club volunteers as they enjoyed a fun day of developing basketball skills.

Former Titan men's basketball player Bernie Fuhs served as camp director for the second year, leading a team of top coaches including fellow Titan alumni Desmond Ferguson and Marc Mazur, as well as Andrew Mellos and former Central Michigan standout Whitney Robinson.

The UDM women's basketball team along with Head Coach Autumn Rademacher also assisted with instruction throughout the day. After stretching out with Assistant AD for Strength and Conditioning Joe Tofferi, campers performed a series of drills and skill sets under the watchful eyes of the coaches, and also competed in a free throw shooting contest.

The highlight of the day was undoubtedly hearing from Rademacher and men's head coach Ray McCallum of the UDM men's basketball team. Both Titan coaches emphasized continual skill improvement, hard work, and above all, always having fun with the game of basketball.

Titan Club Vice President and camp co-chair Michael Bartnicki was very pleased with the camp.

“More campers joined us this year, and the change in venue to Dick Vitale Court at Calihan Hall made the day even more special for our participants. Our coaches once again did a fantastic job providing a fun and engaging experience.”

Camp participants and volunteers alike felt that the 2012 Titan Club Basketball Camp was a resounding success, and are looking forward to an even more exciting event in 2013. The Titan Club is the official booster organization for the more than 300 student-athletes at the University of Detroit Mercy. Formed back in 1940s, the Titan Club and the more exclusive CAL Club designations recognize alumni, parents, former student-athletes and friends of  Detroit Titan Athletics who have banded together to provide financial support for the University's 19 intercollegiate athletic programs.
