2012 Horizon League Spring Honor Roll Release
INDIANAPOLIS -- The University of Detroit Mercy saw 73 student-athletes honored for their hard work in the classroom as the Horizon League announced its 2012 Spring Academic Honor Roll on Monday.
A total of 743 student-athletes from all Horizon League institutions and all 19 League sports compiled the Spring Academic Honor Roll.
Detroit's 73 selections were ahead of Loyola (71), Cleveland State (65), Wright State (57) and UIC (56). The Titan men's soccer team did land the most honorees in that sport with 12, while the women's track & field/cross country program led the way with 17.
Candidates for the Honor Roll must meet three criteria in order to qualify: 1) participation in at least one of the League's 19 sports during the most recent (or current) season; 2) completion of three semesters (or four quarters, where applicable) as a full-time student at the same member institution; and 3) a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.20 (on a 4.00 scale).
In the Horizon League, women's soccer continued to generate the most student-athletes on the list with 87. Track and field/cross country participants accounted for 151 student-athletes - 81 on the women's side and 70 on the men's, while women's swimming and diving had 74 student-athletes honored.
