DETROIT (8/8/2012) - Former University of Detroit Mercy standout guard Willie Green was recently traded from the NBA's Atlanta Hawks to the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for the rights to forward Sofoklis Schortsanitis. Green played in 53 regular season games for Atlanta in 2011-12, averaging 7.6 points and 1.5 rebounds.
Green has averaged 9.1 points in nine NBA seasons with Philadelphia, New Orleans and Atlanta. He averaged 8.7 points and 2.1 rebounds in 77 games with New Orleans during the 2010-11 season. The 2003 Horizon League Player of the Year spent his first seven seasons with Philadelphia before joining the Hornets.
Green has played in 552 games in his NBA career, including 74 starts during the 2007-08 season in which he averaged 12.4 points and 2.5 rebounds per game for Philadelphia. The 31-year-old played at UDM from 1999-2003, leading the Titans to an NCAA tourney berth and two NIT tournaments including a NIT Final Four appearance in 2001.
