DETROIT (9/28/12) - The Detroit Titans men's and women's basketball teams hosted a free Youth Clinic on Saturday, September 22, which was then followed by an Alumni Game to cap off the men's basketball Legends and Traditions Weekend at Calihan Hall.
The day started with members from both teams along with former Detroit greats to spend time teaching the youth of the Motor City how to play like Titans. Former Titan Dan Kennedy '89 was the driving force behind the project as he helped organize the camp.
After the clinic, legends such as the Titans all-time leading scorer Rashad Phillips '01 along with current NBA star Willie Green '03 took to the floor to show that they still had game. In the end, Desmond Ferguson '00 and Terry Duerod '79 led the red team to an 85-83 victory after a back and forth second half.
“This was a great event,” said Bernie Fuhs '03, who helped schedule the weekend festivities. “The fans were here and all the former players came back, there was a real sense of camaraderie. We all had a great time and this is the start of something special.”
All proceeds from the weekend went to the Dave DeBusschere Scholarship Foundation.
The 2012-13 basketball season is just around the corner and will begin with the Titan Tip-Off, scheduled for October 12 at Caihan Hall. The event is FREE and open to all students, alumni and Titan fans. Both the men's and women's seasons are set to begin on November 9 as the men host Northern Michigan at Calihan Hall, while the women travel to Ann Arbor to face Michigan. The women will make their home court debut against Canisius, November 13.
