DETROIT (1/15/2013) -- Enjoy a great day of
FREE athletic fun and celebration as the Titans' Annual Girls & Women in Sports Day will be held on Saturday, Feb. 9, at Calihan Hall. The deadline to sign up has been
EXTENDED TO FRIDAY, FEB. 8.
The event will precede Detroit's women's basketball game at 2:00 p.m., against conference rival Valparaiso.
The 2013 National Girls and Women in Sports Day will celebrate 27 years of an annual event that brings attention to the success of Title IX and the thousands of opportunities it has provided young girls in the United States.
All girls ages 6-13 are invited to be part of an exciting schedule of events, which will start at 11:00 a.m. The day will feature a variety of sports clinics at Calihan Hall, where student-athletes from nearly all of UDM's varsity teams will provide skill instruction and hands-on demonstrations.
Following the clinics, the Titan women's basketball team will square off against the Crusaders and during halftime of that contest, all the participants will come together on the court for a special halftime presentation with the UDM cheer team.
The cost of the program is
FREE, and all participants will receive complimentary admission for the basketball game. In addition, all attendees will receive a t-shirt and lunch.
“This has been a great event at Detroit for so many years and it is always exciting to see all the young girls come out and participate,” said UDM Associate Athletic Director for Internal Affairs and Senior Woman Administrator Teri Kromrei. “The day truly recognizes the role athletics can play in a women's life and all the opportunities that are out there for young girls.”
Registration for the event starts at 10:00 a.m. To register, fill out the
online registration or call Titan athletics at 313-993-1705, or email Assistant Director of Marketing & Promotions Melissa Kopriva at melissa.kopriva@udmercy.edu.
