Coach Rademacher Preview

DETROIT (1/15/2013) --
The Detroit women's basketball team will play its fourth-straight game on the road as the Titans look for their first conference win of the season at Wright State on Wednesday. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m., at the Nutter Center.

The game can be viewed live online on the Horizon League Network and there will also be live stats for this contest. Titan fans can follow every UDM game this season through the women's basketball GAMEDAY CENTRAL page located on the Titans Athletic Website that will keep fans one click away from all the action. This page will feature links for live stats (audio and video when applicable) as well as links for all the latest info while also making it easy to find the Titans on social media and to purchase photos and game tickets.

Detroit fell to 7-7 and 0-2 in the Horizon League after dropping a 77-66 decision at Cleveland State last Saturday. Senior Yar Shayok led the way with her third double-double of the season tallying a season-high 15 points and 10 rebounds, while sophomore Shareta Brown notched 15 points in just 21 minutes due to foul trouble.

Brown begins this week as the No. 2 scorer in the nation at 23.9 points per game, while leading the country in field-goal percentage (61.7%). Detroit's offense still tops the Horizon League at 69.9 ppg., and is third in the conference in scoring defense yielding just 61.7 ppg.

Wright State has been up and down this year and stands at 7-8 overall and 1-1 in league play. WSU – the No. 3 team in the preseason coaches' poll – started the conference slate with a road win at Milwaukee (71-61) before losing at Green Bay (71-44).

The 2012-13 HL Preseason Player of the Year Kim Demmings leads the Raiders and is fourth in the league in scoring at 19.9 ppg. She is also fifth in assists (3.8) and 13th in rebounding (5.7). KC Elkins is second on the squad with 10.8 ppg., and 3.1 apg., while Tayler Stanton is pulling down a team-best 8.0 rebounds a night.

Detroit will return home after its season long four-game road trip next week when it hosts Loyola on Thursday (Jan.24) and UIC on Saturday (Jan. 26). The Titans have won 10 in a row at home, the 16th longest home court winning streak in Division I.

THE UDM-WSU SERIES
Detroit won two of three against Wright State last season, including ousting the Raiders in the Horizon League quarterfinals, 78-70, and lead the overall series, 22-18. These two teams have split the last eight meetings. In fact in the last eight games, the average score has been UDM 66.0, WSU 65.8, but while that might seem like every game has come down to the wire, each team has a pair of double-digit victories, all of which have come in Calihan Hall.

The Titans are 9-10 all-time on the road against Wright State and are 1-5 in their last six trips to the Nutter Center, with the lone triumph a 58-54 victory in 2010.

BATTLE OF 2012 HL NEWCOMERS OF THE YEAR
The Titans and Raiders are both led by sophomore sensations who shared last year's HL Newcomer of the Year in UDM's Shareta Brown and Wright State's Kim Demmings.

Brown and Demmings were also closely matched up in the preseason poll as Demmings edged Brown by a single vote to earn the Preseason Player of the Year.

Last season, Demmings was second in the HL in scoring at 18.4 ppg., while Brown was fourth (18.0) as both players led their squad to a 20-win season and a trip to the postseason.

COACH RAD NEARING A MILESTONE
Head coach Autumn Rademacher has 69 career wins at Detroit, just one away from tying Sue Kreszewski (1977-80) - the first coach in Titan history - for third in the school record book.

Fred Procter (1990-96) leads UDM with 93 career wins, while DeWayne Jones (1983-90) is at 91.

When Coach Rademacher took over her alma mater in 2008, UDM was coming off back-to-back last-place finishes in the HL and had just 11 total wins from 2006-08.

In her time, Detroit has posted two winning seasons, a 20-win campaign, four-straight years with a conference tournament victory and a trip to the WNIT in 2012, the first postseason action for UDM since the 1997 NCAA Tournament.

BROWN BACK TO #1 IN THE NATION
Sophomore Shareta Brown was leading the country in scoring for a few weeks, but now, the second-year forward is back on top in another category as she tops Division I in field-goal percentage (61.7%). She was fifth in the NCAA - in field goal percentage (55.9%) last season.

Brown is also second in the country in scoring at 23.9 ppg., trailing only Georgetown's Sugar Rodgers (25.3).

The only Titan to ever lead the nation in a statistical category was Brigid Mulroy back in 2010 as she was first in three-point field-goal percentage (50.5%).

OTHER NATIONAL RANKINGS
Senior Yar Shayok is 52nd in the country with 9.9 rebounds per game. As a team, UDM is 18th in the nation in field-goal percentage (45.0%) and 31st in rebounding margin (7.6).

COUNTDOWN TO 1,000
Sophomore Shareta Brown is currently 54 points away from becoming the 18th player in school history to reach 1,000 career points.

Brown has scored 946 points in just 48 career games - an average of 19.7 ppg., - and is on pace to become the quickest Titan to post 1,000 points as that honor currently belongs Detroit's all-time leading scorer Cassandra Pack, who notched that feat in her 57th game.

If Brown reaches that mark, it will be the second player to get 1,000 this season as senior Yar Shayok crossed that line against South Florida on Dec. 31.

The last time UDM had two players reach 1,000 in the same season was 2006 when Lindsay Pasquinzo and Katie Solner both did it.

LINE-UP CHANGE
Detroit made a change to its starting line-up at Cleveland State as junior Megan Hatter made her first start since Nov. 24 against South Alabama.

GETTING TO THE LINE
Detroit is third in the Horizon League with 290 free throw attempts as well as second in the HL converting on 196. UDM's 67.6% at the free throw line is fourth in the league.

UDM has gone to the line at least 20 times on nine occasions this season, making a season-high 21 against Lourdes, at South Florida and at Cleveland State.

Meanwhile, sophomore Shareta Brown is second in the HL with 143 trips to the charity stripe and 100 made free throws, with her 69.9% standing 11th in the conference.

MORE AT THE CHARITY STRIPE
Detroit has visited the free throw line 60 times in its last three games, hitting on 48 for an 80.0% clip, including a 21-of-24 effort at Cleveland State and a 21-of-28 pace at South Florida.

#WHAT CAN BROWN DO 4 YOU
Sophomore Shareta Brown's offensive game has her among the nation's leaders as she is currently second in the country in scoring at 23.9 ppg., while leading the country in field-goal percentage (61.7%).

Brown broke the Titan school record with 43 points in a game against Lourdes on Dec. 10, and added her fourth 30-point game of the season -and the sixth of her career - with 34 points at IPFW on Dec. 18. Her six 30-point games are tied with Cassandra Pack (1983-87) for the most in school history.

Her 43-point outburst is tied with IPFW's Amanda Hyde for the highest in Division I.

Also, her 13-of-15 effort (86.7%) from the field against Madonna on Dec. 22 is tied for the second highest field goal percentage in the NCAA this year.

YAR LOOKING TO MOVE UP
Senior Yar Shayok made history at South Florida on Dec. 31 as she became just the 17th player in school history to reach 1,000 points.

With her season high of 15 against Cleveland State her last time out, Shayok now has 1,020 career points and trails Mary Lillie (1978-82) by just 13 points for 16th place (1,033) and Katie Solner (2002-06) by 18 for 15th place (1,038).

The fifth-year senior – who redshirted after playing just two games as a freshman due to a foot injury – is averaging 8.2 points this season and 9.1 points per game in her career.

OFF THE BENCH, YAR POST SEASON HIGH
Senior Yar Shayok came off the bench for the first time this season and netted a season-high 15 points, along with 10 rebounds, for her 26th career double-double at Cleveland State.

Shayok was 5-of-12 from the field and 5-of-6 from the free throw line in the game.

Her 15-point effort was the highest she has scored in nearly two years when she had 17 at Youngstown State on Jan. 22, 2011, a 66-57 Titan win.

SENIOR PRIDE
Senior Yar Shayok - the 2012 HL Sixth Player of the Year - is looking to end her career in grand fashion.

She is currently first on the team and third in the Horizon League in rebounding (9.9), which includes seven double-digit efforts.

She grabbed a season-high 15 against Lourdes and also had 10 rebounds against #6/7 Penn State and at Cleveland State.

The 10 caroms at CSU marked the 45th time in her career that she has pulled down at least 10 boards in a game.

LENDING A HAND
While scoring 101 points against Lourdes, Detroit racked up another season high with 26 assists against the Gray Wolves.

It is the most assists by the Titans since they posted 27 in a 93-56 win over Wright State on Jan. 29, 1998.

Detroit is currently second in the Horizon League with 14.5 assists per game, and has totaled 14 or more assists in nine of its 14 games on the year.

GETTING TO 70
The Titans are 32-6 when they score 70 or more points - and 10-1 when they score 80 or more - under head coach Autumn Rademacher.

“RITA” RIDING DOUBLES
Sophomore Shareta Brown recently saw her 32-game streak in double figures come to an end at Green Bay on Jan. 8.

In her career, Brown has scored in double figures in 44 of the 48 games she has played in, and is averaging 19.7 ppg.

So far in her career, she had netted at least 20 points 21 times and 30 points on six occasions, tying a school record.

DEZZY'S 3'S
Freshman Destiny Lavita-Stephens connected on a 3-pointer at Cleveland State to run her streak to six-straight games with a trifecta.

Lavita-Stephens has at least one trey in the last six games (8-of-21 overall, 38.0%) and has twice connected on two. She also tied her season high with 10 points against Madonna (also had 10 vs. WMU).

On the year, she is averaging 3.4 ppg., with her 11 treys ranking fourth on the team.

BACK IN DOUBLES
Senior Demeisha Fambro reached double figures for the seventh time this season, and the first time in her last three games with 10 points at Cleveland State.

She had a streak of five-straight games in double figures earlier in the year and is averaging 9.5 points - second on the team - on the season.

During her streak of five-straight games in double figures, she had a season-high 18 points, on 8-of-13 shooting, while tying her career-best with nine rebounds against WMU, and followed that with 17 at Ohio - where she had a personal 9-0 run that got Detroit back in front and sparked a 22-3 spurt.
