LAST TIME OUT
Detroit (14-8, 6-3 HL) captured its second-straight road win, fourth of the season, Wednesday night with a 83-76 topping of Wright State at the Nutter Center.
Junior guard
Ray McCallum led Detroit with a game-high 24 points, while
Nick Minnerath added 18 and
Doug Anderson pitched in 15. Juwan Howard, Jr. also scored in double figures with 11 points, nine in the second half, while
Evan Bruinsma grabbed a team-high nine rebounds to go along with his nine points.
UDM was down by one at the half, 41-40, but outscored the Raiders, 43-35, in the second stanza, including 14-9 from the charity stripe.
In a game that had a total of 51 fouls Detroit used its defense to claim the win, the Titans held a 66-65 lead with 7:24 left, before their defense locked down to hold Wright State without a basket for six minutes to build a 77-65 lead. The Raiders made five free throws and a couple of baskets in the closing minute, while the Titans only connected of 4-of-11 free throws to make the final score 83-76. Detroit shot 50 percent (13-26) in the second half, while holding the Raiders to 41.4 percent (12-29), including 12.5 percent (2-16) from downtown to take control of the game.
The Titans ended the game shooting 54.2 percent (26-48) from the field, including 47.4 percent (9-19) from downtown, while holding Wright State to 44.6 percent (25-56) overall and just 26.5 percent (9-34) from beyond the arc.
SERIES WITH YOUNGSTOWN STATE
This will be the 34th meeting between Detroit and Youngstown State, with the Titans owning a 25-8 lead. Detroit won the first meeting this season 101-60 at the Beeghly Center in Youngstown, Ohio. The two teams split their regular season series last year, both winning on the road, before the Titans topped the Penguins, 93-76, in the second round of the Horizon League Championship at Valparaiso.
ABOUT THE PENGUINS
Youngstown State junior Kendrick Perry scored a game-high 28 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as the Penguins snapped Valparaiso's six-game winning streak beating the Crusaders 80-68 on Wednesday night at the Beeghly Center.
The fourth-straight conference win for the Penguins improves them to 13-8 overall and 5-3 after the first half of the Horizon League slate. Valpo falls to 16-6 and 6-2 on the year and is one game ahead of the Penguins in first place.
Perry had a spectacular all-around performance. He scored 15 in the first half before adding 13 in the second half to finish with 28. He grabbed 11 rebounds, 10 of which came on the defensive glass.
The Penguins never trailed on the evening and led by double figures for the final 15:20 of the contest. For the game, YSU shot an impressive 48.1 percent making 26-of-54 attempts. Perry was a solid 8-of-12 from the field and knocked down 4-of-7 from behind the 3-point line.

Doug Anderson (11.9 ppg), along with sophomore forward Juwan Howard, Jr. (10.2 ppg) fill out the starting five. Detroit's starters are responsible for 85.4 percent of the Titans scoring, while all five rank among the top-20 in the Horizon League.
HOWARD, JR. OR THE II?
Detroit sophomore forward Juwan Howard, Jr. has proven to become a valuable asset for the Titans in the second half. Over the last two games, both on the road, Howard has scored 24 of his 28 points in the second half. Through the first nine games of conference play Howard is averaging 15.8 minutes, 6.6 points and 2.9 rebounds in the second half, all rank third on the team. Over the six wins in League play Howard is averaging 7.5 points and 2.8 rebounds, while shooting 42.9 percent from downtown in the second stanza.
CLOSING IN ON 1,000
Detroit junior guard
Jason Calliste is closing in on becoming the 38th player Titan history to reach the 1,000-point plateau in his career. Calliste enters Wednesday's game with 930 career points and is averaging 13.5 ppg, which ranks seventh in the Horizon League.
McCALLUM NAMED COUSY AWARD FINALIST
Detroit junior guard
Ray McCallum was named a finalist for the 2013 Bob Cousy Collegiate Point Guard of the Year Award. This marks the second straight year that McCallum has been named to the final 20 of the Bob Cousy Award.
The annual honor, named for Hall of Famer and former Boston Celtic Bob Cousy, recognizes the top point guards in men's college basketball. Over 80 candidates have been nominated for the 2013 Bob Cousy Award.
CLIMBING THE CHARTS
Detroit junior
Ray McCallum currently leads the Titans in three categories this season scoring (18.4 ppg), assists (4.6 apg), and steals (1.7 spg.) and is also climbing up the career record board in all three. McCallum has 1,405 points (17th), 406 assist (9th) and 148 steals (6th) in his career. The last Titan to rank among the top-10 in all three of those categories was Rashad Phillips '01. Phillips finished his spectacular career with 2,319 points (1st), 548 assists (4th) and 190 steals (2nd). McCallum needs 197 points to reach that plateau.
ONE OF THE BEST IN THE NATION
The Titans are one of the best teams in the nation in turnover margin where they rank fourth (+5.2) overall. Detroit has forced 372 turnovers, while only committing 257 through 22 games this season. VCU (+8.1), Louisville (+7.0) and Arkansas (+6.5) are the only teams with a higher turnover ratio than the Titans.
RACKING UP SOME POINTS
As a team the Titans lead the Horizon League and rank 10th in the nation in scoring with 78.6 points per game. Detroit also leads the League in scoring margin (+9.2). The Titans average 83.7 points per game at home, compared to 72.5 per game on the road, but the defense has stayed steady only giving up 68.8 at home and 70.1 on the road.
RED, WHITE AND BLUE
The Titans have worn three different uniform colors this season and hold a winning record in two. Detroit is 9-3 in white uniforms this season, 4-3 in red and 1-2 in blue.
