DETROIT (10/22/2013) -- The University of Detroit Mercy had both its men's and women's lacrosse teams featured in the November issue of Lacrosse Magazine.
Senior
Troy Dennis of the men's lacrosse team graces the cover while working out at UDM. Inside the magazine, a feature on Detroit lacrosse called "Motor City Moxie" talks about the strength and conditioning of the Titans and the work done off the field in addition to the championship runs from both teams in the 2013 season.
Junior
Mike Birney of the men's team and sophomore
Kylie Birney of the UDM women's lacrosse team, Mike's sister, were also featured and interviewed in the November issue.
In 2013, the men's team captured its first-ever MAAC Championship and earned a berth to the NCAA Championship against a tough Notre Dame opponent in the first round. Detroit was leading 7-3 heading into the fourth and final quarter, but six straight goals from the No. 2 team in the country gave the Fighting Irish a 9-7 victory.
The 2013 campaign saw the women's team participate in the first-ever Atlantic Sun Women's Lacrosse Tournament in Jacksonville reaching the championship game but falling to the No. 1 seed Jacksonville, one game short of the A-Sun's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
Editor Matt DaSilva also writes a column on why he
voted for the UDM men's team in the annual "Best of Lacrosse" awards and specifically the team's run from the MAAC Championship to a near upset of Notre Dame in the NCAA Tournament.
