DETROIT (10/27/2013) -- While the Motor City was watching the Detroit Lions win in thrilling fashion, the University of Detroit Mercy women's basketball team was doing its part in helping the local community by teaming with Marygrove College to help clean up McNichols Road.
For the second year in a row, the two programs came together to help clean up the mile stretch that separates the two campuses.
The student-athletes and the coaching staffs got down and dirty moving up McNichols Road, getting all the trash, bottles and everything else they could safely get their hands on. Armed with rakes and gloves, they started down on the Marygrove side of McNichols Road and made their way up to UDM.
"It is always great to give back," said senior
Senee Shearer. "I grew up here in Detroit and it is great to come out and help clean up the community. We take a lot of things for granted, but it was fun today and something we all enjoyed doing."
After the clean-up was over, the teams had a chance to socialize inside the Titan Club as they had some much deserved food waiting for them.
While it was all fun today and gave the two teams a chance to work together, it will be a different scene on Wednesday, Oct. 30, as the Titans host the Mustangs in an exhibition game in Calihan Hall. Tip off is set for 7:00 p.m., and admission is
FREE for all fans.
