Horizon League Women's Basketball Preseason Poll & Teams

INDIANAPOLIS (10/28/2013) --
The exhibition season began over the weekend and on Monday, the preseason polls and All-League teams were announced as the Horizon League held its women's basketball media event. On the call with HLN's Kyle Binder were head coach Autumn Rademacher and senior Senee Shearer from UDM.

The University of Detroit Mercy women's team was picked to finish sixth in the preseason poll, garnering 99 votes, including one for first place. The poll was conducted by the HL's coaches, sports information directors, and media members.

Just 68 votes separate third place from seventh place. The defending champion Green Bay Phoenix claimed the top spot with 225 votes – 21 for first place – while Wright State took second with 189 and Youngstown State third at 165. UIC – who had the next most first place nods with three – was fourth with 146 votes, while Milwaukee totaled 136. Cleveland State (97), Oakland (73), and Valparaiso (40) rounded out the preseason poll.

The last time UDM was picked sixth or lower was in 2011-12 when the red, white, and blue turned a preseason seventh-place prediction into a 20 win season and a second-place finish in the league along with a trip to the WNIT.

Detroit will have its lone exhibition of the season on Wednesday, Oct. 30, as the Titans host Marygrove in the "Battle of McNichols Road" inside historic Calihan Hall. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. with FREE ADMISSION for that game.
