THE DETROIT-LAWRENCE TECH SERIES
This will be the first career regular season meeting between Detroit and Lawrence Tech, two programs separated by a little more than eight miles as LTU is located in Southfield.
Last season in an exhibition, the Titans hosted the Blue Devils and cruised to a 97-33 victory.
ABOUT THE BLUE DEVILS
Lawrence Tech is 1-2 on the season dropping games against Indiana-South Bend (78-71) and Wayne State (76-39), while defeating Holy Cross College (72-50). The Blue Devils are just in their second year as a varsity program and went 7-19 last year, including 5-17 in the WHAC.
LTU is very young with 11 underclassmen on its 15-man roster, including six freshmen and just three seniors. Comprised of mostly local talent, 14 of the 15 Blue Devils hail from Michigan.
Jackie Hood leads the team in scoring at 16.0 points per game, while sophomores Hali Butler and Allison Bicknell tallied 14.0 ppg., through the first two games.
Former Titan
Eman Hubbard - who was on the roster last season but did not play - is on LTU's roster and has played in all three games so far.
Mary Pinkowski is in her second year at Lawrence Tech after serving as head coach at UM-Dearborn for five seasons. In the 2009-2010 season, Pinkowski was named the WHAC Champions of Character Coach of the Year.
LOOKING AHEAD
Detroit has a busy start to the season with four games in an eight day span as the Titans return to action on Thursday, Nov. 14, when they hit the road to Western Michigan.
UDM will end its four-game opening stretch on Saturday, Nov. 16, as the Titans host Michigan in Calihan Hall in a game that will be televised on WADL.
EXHIBITION RECAP
All 11 Detroit players who suited up scored as UDM ran all over city-rival Marygrove College, 96-33, in its lone exhibition game dubbed the "Battle of McNichols".
Senior
Senee Shearer led all scorers with 17 points while senior
Megan Hatter had 13 points and seven rebounds in just 18 minutes. Sophomore
Tayelor McCalister recorded 10 points, a team-high 11 rebounds, four assists, and four steals while freshman
Minisha Frederick-Childress ended with 12 points, eight rebounds, four steals, and three helpers.
The defense held Marygrove to just 20.6% shooting as the Mustangs were 13-of-63 from the floor. The Titans also caused 38 turnovers with 19 steals and Marygrove didn't help its cause going 5-for-19 at the free throw line.
UDM put up 78 shots in the game and pulled down 67 rebounds, including 26 offensive.
HOME OPENERS
The Titans are 19-17 all-time in home openers with a 3-2 record under head coach Autumn Rademacher. The two setbacks have been to No. 10 Michigan State in 2009 and to Bowling Green in 2011.
The three wins were over Canisius last season, Oakland in 2010 and probably one of the most memorable moments in Titan history when UDM upset No. 23 Georgia, 70-66, in 2008, for coach Rademacher's first victory at her alma mater.
This year's game also marks the second earliest home game in Titan history behind the Nov. 10, 2006, contest versus Bowling Green.
AGAINST THE GREAT LAKES STATE
UDM is 104-64 all-time against teams from the Michigan, and 10-4 since the start of the 2010-11 season, with the only losses coming to Michigan (2x) and Michigan State (2x).
VERSUS NON-CONFERENCE FOES
Detroit is 16-2 against non-conference foes at home dating back to the 2009-10 season, which includes four wins in last year's run to the WBI title.
The only losses have been to Michigan and Bowling Green during that span.
A RUDE HOST
UDM was 16-1 at home last season - averaging 76.6 ppg - with a +16.6 scoring margin. In fact, Detroit's 16 home victories were tied for the second most in the nation with Kentucky trailing only North Carolina's 17-1 mark.
The 16 wins were also a new school record breaking the perfect 13-0 mark of the 1986-87 squad.
MORE ON CALIHAN MAGIC
Over a longer stretch of time, the Titans have posted a 27-4 ledger in their last 31 home games dating back to the 2010-11 campaign, as well as 42-12 in their last 54 home games.
UDM is also 50-23 in Calihan Hall since head coach Autumn Rademacher returned to her alma mater in 2008.
In their 36-year history, the Titans have enjoyed a 278-144 (.657) home court record.
HOISTING UP A RECORD
Detroit tied a school record with 31 three-point attempts in the season opener at Canisius, making six in the game.
Last season, UDM attempted a school record 661 three-pointers, breaking the record of 593 thrown up during the 2005-06 season.
UDM was also close to setting a record for makes with 210, three away from the 213 it hit during the 2005-06 campaign.
GETTING SHOTS UP
UDM put up 70 total shots in the season opener at Canisius, the most since the Titans threw up 70 at Loyola on Jan. 31, 2008.
COACH RAD LOOKING FOR A RECORD
Head coach Autumn Rademacher is in her sixth year coaching her alma mater, where she has an 83-78 record and is currently in third place in UDM history in wins, just 10 away from the school record held by her coach in college Fred Procter (93, 1990-96) and eight away from DeWayne Jones (91, 1983-90).
It is not like Coach Rademacher took over a top of the line program as UDM was coming off back-to-back last-place finishes and just 11 total wins from 2006-08.
In her first five years, Detroit has posted three winning seasons, a 20-win campaign, five-straight years with a conference tournament victory and a trip to the WNIT in 2012 - the first postseason action for UDM since the 1997 NCAA Tournament - and a WBI Championship last season, the first postseason title since 1981.
THE DEAN OF THE HORIZON LEAGUE
UDM will begin its 33rd season as a member of the Horizon League this year and now stands as the eldest member in the conference by 14 years over Cleveland State, Green Bay, Milwaukee, UIC, and Wright State, who all joined in 1994 with the Titans entering in 1980.
BACK-TO-BACK -TO BACK WINNING SEASONS
Detroit finished last season at 21-13, its second-straight winning season and the first time it has had back-to-back winning seasons since 2001 (17-12) and 2002 (16-14).
Not only did they post back-to-back winning seasons, the Titans now have two-straight years of 20 wins, the first time that has happened since they had four-straight between 1978-82. The 21 wins were also the most since UDM went 23-7 in 1997.
The last time Detroit had three-straight winning seasons was between 1999-2002 when the Titans were 18-9 (1999-00), 17-12 (2000-01) and 16-14 (2001-02)
Under Coach Rademacher, Detroit has had three winning seasons in the last four years after having just one in its previous seven.
SHEARER NOW TOP 7 IN 3'S
With a pair of 3-pointers in the season opener, senior
Senee Shearer now has sole possession of seventh place on the Titan all-time list with 136 career trifectas.
Shearer is just 24 away from sixth place and Brigid Mulroy's ('10) 160.
She will have a chance at the top spot trailing Titan head coach
Autumn Rademacher '97 by 67 (201) for second and school record-holder Michelle James '02 by 83 (217).
DOUBLE DEBUT
Junior
Ellisha Crosby waited two years to get back on the court and she had a strong game in her Division I debut posting a double-double and leading the team with 15 points, 11 rebounds and three steals.
MY BALL
The Titans forced Canisius into 21 turnovers, the most since they tallied 24 at South Florida last season. UDM's 11 steals were the most since it had 12 at Valparaiso in the season finale last year.
IT'S TAY TIME
Tayelor McCalister had a fine start to her sophomore year finishing with career highs in points (11) and assists (4), while also coming away with two steals in 35 minutes in the season opener.
McCalister played in 19 games - all off the bench - as a rookie and averaged 2.4 points, 0.8 rebounds, 0.6 assists and 0.5 steals per game, with her best effort a season-high 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting with three rebounds and three assists against Madonna. She also netted nine points at South Florida, with three boards, two assists and two steals.
FRESHMEN CONTRIBUTIONS
Detroit played four of its six freshmen in the season opener at Canisius.
Haleigh Ristovski played the most minutes with 20 and pulled down five rebounds in the process with two steals.
Minisha Frederick-Childress had six points, two assists and a steal in nine minutes, while
Reyna Montgomery added two points and three boards in nine minutes. The last freshman to see action was
Lizzy Connors who had a rebound in five minutes of court time.
