College Sports Madness
DETROIT (10/26/13) – University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball co-captain junior forward Juwan Howard Jr., was recently named the Horizon League Player of the Week by College Sports Madness. Howard led Detroit with 23 points against Toledo and added a career-high 25 points over Stony Brook. He has scored in double figures every game this year.
Howard began his week with 15 points, seven rebounds and four assists in the Titans 71-67 road win at James Madison on Tuesday (Nov. 19). Howard then pitched in 14 points with three rebounds, two assists and one blocked shot as Detroit opened the 2K Sports Classic benefitting the Wounded Warrior Project with a dominating 77-44 win of Florida Atlantic on Friday (Nov. 22) at Calihan Hall.
Howard continued with his good play on Saturday (Nov. 23) when he finished with 23 points and six rebounds in a last second loss to Toledo, 80-78, before completing the weekend by scoring a career-high 25 points to go along with seven assists, three rebounds and two blocked shots as the Titans came up short in a triple overtime loss to Stony Brook, 104-12.
Howard was named to the 2K Sports Classic All-Tournament team after averaging 19.2 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game.
Detroit will hit the road to visit South Florida on Saturday, Nov. 30. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET at the Sun Dome and will be carried live on ESPN3. Fans can also listen to the game live on 1270 AM with
