LAST OUTING
Jameel Warney finished with 32 points, including a layup with five seconds left in triple overtime to help lift Stony Brook past the Titans, 104-102, on Sunday at Calihan Hall as part of the 2K Sports Classic benefitting the Wounded Warrior Project. For the second-straight day the Titans had the final shot, but just like Saturday Juwan Howard Jr.'s three-pointer fell short at the buzzer.

The Titans trailed by three 100-97, before battling back to take a 101-100 lead with 2:25 left in the third overtime. Stony Brook then took the lead again 102-101, before Howard made a free throw to tie it 102. Warney then grabbed an offensive rebound and made the put back with five seconds left to win the game.

Detroit (3-4) was led by senior co-captain Evan Bruinsma who had a career day with 32 points – including 20-of-22 from the free throw line – with 14 rebounds, three assists and two steals. Howard also had another outstanding performance with 25 points – a new career-high – with seven assists, three rebounds and two blocked shots. Sophomore guard Carlton Brundidge also pitched in 19 points with five rebounds and two assists, while freshman guard Matthew Grant added 11 points.

The Titans led by as much as five in the second overtime 93-88 with 1:27 left, before Anthony Jackson was fouled while draining a three-pointer to convert a four-point play and bring the Seawolves back to within one 93-92 with 1:14 left. Grant then split a pair of free throws to make the lead 94-92, before Warney made a layup with nine seconds left to force the third overtime.

The first overtime saw Stony Brook (5-2) jump out to an early four-point lead 79-75, and then 81-77 with 1:41 left, before four straight free throws from Howard and Bruinsma tied the score in the closing seconds.

Detroit shot 41.2 percent (28-of-68) overall, including 26.5 percent (9-of-34) from downtown, while Stony Brook shot 45 percent (36-of-80) overall, including 34.6 percent (9-of-26) from beyond the arc. The Seawolves won the battle on boards 49-42, including 18 on the offensive glass, but the Titans made up for that by making 37-of-43 free throws compared to Stony Brook's 23-of-29 for the charity stripe. Detroit also forced 13 turnovers and blocked five shots in the game.

SERIES WITH SOUTH FLORIDA
This will be first ever meeting between Detroit and South Florida.

HOWARD HONORED BY COLLEGE SPORTS MADNESS
College Sports Madness recently named junior forward Juwan Howard Jr., the Horizon League Player of the Week. Howard led Detroit with 23 points against Toledo and added a career-high 25 points over Stony Brook. He has scored in double figures every game this year.

Howard began his week with 15 points; seven rebounds and four assists in the Titans 71-67 road win at James Madison on Tuesday (Nov. 19). FAB TWO?
With Juwan Howard, Jr., son of U-M great and Fab Five member Juwan Howard, being a co-captain of the Titans this year, it is just fitting that Detroit has a pair for freshman making a statement early. Jarod Williams began his collegiate career with back-to-back double digit scoring affairs with 11 points at South Alabama, followed by 12 against U-M Dearborn. By doing so Williams became the true Titan freshman to score in double figures in his first two collegiate games during the Coach McCallum Era.

Not to be out done was Williams' backcourt classmate Matthew Grant who has scored in double figures over the last two games with 10 points against U-M Dearborn and a team-high 15 points at No. 19 UConn.

Altogether the "Fab Two" have combine to average 17.8 points, 3.4 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.1 steals per game. Grant is averaging 9.7 points, 1.1 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game, while Williams is averaging 8.1 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. The 17.8 points per game by the talented backcourt is responsible for 24 percent of the Titans scoring this season.

BLOCK PARTY
The Titans have recorded 41 blocked shots through their first seven games and are averaging 5.9 blocked shots per game which ranks 44th in the nation. Detroit recorded a season-high 13 blocks against U-M Dearborn, which were the most for the Titans since swatting 17 against Western Michigan in 1978.

Senior center Ugochukwu Njoku leads Detroit with 15 blocked shots and has recorded at least two blocks four games this year, including a career-high five against U-M Dearborn.
