Every week, the Titan notebook will give a little more insight into the odds and ends stats, storylines and notes that might have been overlooked during the previous week's action.
SIZZLING – There is really not much you can say about senior
Senee Shearer except WOW! She has poured in 20 or more points in six-straight games and is looking to potentially tie the school record this week, which is held by Titan Hall-Of-Famer and all-time leading scorer Cassandra Pack. When you talk about tying a record held by a person who tallied over 2,000 career points, you know you are in good company.
DO YOU LIKE OFFENSE – Well then, Calihan Hall is the place for you. On one side, we have a men's team that can score, but the women can put it in the hole too. Through 11 games, UDM is second in the Horizon League and 83rd in the nation in scoring at 73.4 ppg. Detroit has also played two of its highest scoring games in school history this season with 200 combined points against Eastern Michigan (104-96) and 189 at Western Michigan (103-86).
The 200 combined points are the fourth most in school history and the third most in a non-overtime game, while the 189 is sixth.
Under head coach Autumn Rademacher, the Titans are 46-12 when they score 70 or more points as well as 15-4 when they score 80 or more. UDM has also eclipsed 90 seven times under Coach Rademacher.
MORE OFFENSE - Senee Shearer currently leads the team and is second in the Horizon League and 36th in the nation in scoring at 20.5 points per game. Add that to junior
Ellisha Crosby who is fifth in the Horizon League in scoring (18.0) and eighth in field-goal percentage (43.1%).
FILLING THE STAT SHEET - What a game by sophomore
Tayelor McCalister against Eastern Michigan her last time out. In just her second game back after missing five with an injury, McCalister totaled eight points and a career-high eight rebounds and nine assists, just a few stats short of a triple double.
Speaking of triple doubles, the last Titan to register one and she did it twice in her career was former standout guard and assistant coach Carrie Banks, who posted 11 points, 10 rebounds and 13 assists against Cleveland State in a 91-83 victory on Feb. 5, 2000. She also had one the year before against the Vikings with 20 points, 16 rebounds and 11 assists.
The only other confirmed triple double in school history was accomplished by the late Lisa Blackburn, who had 12 points, 16 boards and 12 assists against No. 3 Kansas on Feb. 14, 1981.
LETS COUNT TO 30 - There have only been 38 30-point games in Titan history, accomplished by 17 different Titans and junior
Ellisha Crosby joined that list with an impressive 33 points against Eastern Michigan. Her 33-point effort is tied for 18th in school history and the most ever by a first-year Titan, passing junior Dominique Dixon's 32 against Milwaukee on Jan. 2, 2011.
HAVE I SEEN YOU BEFORE - The UDM women's basketball team did some "in-season" recruiting as the Titans announced that senior
Abby McCollum of the women's soccer team has joined the squad.
If she appears in a game, she will be the first Detroit female student-athlete in 10 years to see action on three varsity teams with the last being Laura Gignac (1999-03), who played three years of softball, two for track and field (2001, 2003) and one with cross country (2001).
McCollum is a four-year letter winner in soccer (2009-13), who also played on the women's lacrosse team as a sophomore in 2011, appearing in five games with one start.
In soccer, McCollum was a two-time All-HL performer earning first team as a sophomore and second team as a junior, while also being tabbed to the All-Newcomer Team as a freshman. As a senior this past fall, she was limited to just 11 games due to a knee injury. She finished her career playing 68 games making 64 starts, scoring 17 goals with 14 assists for 48 points. Her 14 helpers are tied for eighth in school history.
MIX & MATCH - Due to the different injuries that have hit the Titans this season, UDM has had seven different starting line-ups through its first 11 games of the year. The Titans have also been forced to play as many as four freshmen on the floor at the same time this year and those four rookies surrounded a first-year transfer.
KIND OF INTERESTING - The Titans will host IPFW this Saturday at Noon. With Oakland University joining the Horizon League this season, IPFW is the only current member of the Summit League that Detroit has ever faced.
