Game #22: Titans Put Their 14-Game Home Winning Streak On The Line In Play 4Kay Pink Game On Wednesday

GAMEDAY CENTRAL       Game Notes

DETROIT (2/12/2013) --
The Detroit women's basketball team has an exciting mid-week contest all set for Calihan Hall as Detroit looks to make it 15 in a row at home when the Wright State Raiders come to town on Wednesday in UDM's Play 4Kay initiative.

There will be a special $6 ticket for the contest with a part of the proceeds going to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund as part of the #Play4Kay Pink Initiative (formerly known as WBCA Pink Zone). The Play 4Kay initiative is an opportunity for a nation of coaches to raise breast cancer awareness and funds for research on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond. Since its inception in 2007, the Play 4Kay initiative has raised over $2 million to support women's cancer research. The Kay Yow Cancer Fund is the official charity of the initiative.

The game will be streamed live on the Horizon League Network with Dan York calling all of the action. The game will also be broadcast live on Comcast 900 on the Xfinity Sports network across Michigan as well as expanded coverage across the nation through the Comcast affiliates. There will also be live stats available for the contest.

With the second half of the Horizon League schedule already underway, the game between Detroit and Wright State is a pivotal one for playoff positioning. UDM is currently third in the Horizon League at 6-3 and can take a three-game lead over the Raiders (4-5) and Cleveland State (4-6) with just six left to play with a win. The top four teams in the standings will host a quarterfinals game in the Horizon League Championship.

The Titans are 13-8 overall having won six of their last seven games, including two from come-from-behind fashion. Its last time out, UDM was down by 12, 41-29, early in the second half when Detroit went on a 33-13 run to erase that deficit and beat Valparaiso, 70-61. Junior Senee Shearer had a game-high 17 points, while freshman Rosanna Reynolds had nine points, six rebounds and a game-high eight assists.

Detroit has won 14 games in a row at home, a streak that is tied for the seventh longest in the nation. The 14-straight home wins are also tied for the second longest in school history, behind only the 17 in a row won at home between the 1985-86 and 1986-87 seasons.

Wright State has dropped three of its last four games and enters the contest at 10-12 overall and 4-5 in the Horizon League.  The Raiders are coming off a loss to Cleveland State in which they led by 19 points in the first half only to fall, 68-63.

WSU is led by sophomore guard and Preseason HL Player of the Year Kim Demmings. She currently ranks fourth in the league in scoring (19.0), eighth in assists (3.7) and 12th in rebounding (5.7). She had 18 points and seven rebounds in the first meeting. Ivory James is second on the team in scoring at 11.2 ppg., while KC Elkins is averaging 10.8 ppg., and 3.5 assists per contest.

The Titans won the first game between the two schools, 86-76, in Dayton on Jan. 16. Sophomore Shareta Brown had 25 points and 16 rebounds, while senior Yar Shayok posted 12 points and 11 boards. Reynolds had a career-high 20 points and senior Demeisha Fambro added 15 in the triumph.

This will be Detroit's lone contest of the week as the Titans will return to action next Thursday, Feb. 21, when they travel to Chicago to play Loyola.

THE DETROIT-WRIGHT STATE SERIES
Detroit has won three of the last four against Wright State to take a 23-18 lead in the all-time series. Back on Jan. 16, UDM saw junior Senee Shearer return to action against Wright State, sparking a five-game winning streak as the Titans defeated the Raiders, 86-76.

UDM is 11-8 all-time at home versus Wright State and has come away with wins in two of the last three meetings in the Motor City. In the last six games at Calihan Hall, the winning team has posted a double-digit victory, including Detroit's 75-64 triumph last season and 68-47 tally in 2010.

HOME WINNING STREAK AT 14
UDM is 8-0 at home this season - averaging 83.6 points per game - and has now won 14-straight games on Dick Vitale Court dating back to last year, a streak that is currently tied for the seventh longest in the nation.

The 14-game home winning streak is also tied for the second longest in school history trailing the 17-game tally between 1985-86 and 1986-87 seasons.

The Titans also won 14-straight at home between the 1979-80 and 1980-81 seasons and the 1980-81 and 1981-82 campaigns.

A RUDE HOST
During the 14-straight wins, UDM is tallying 80.7 ppg., and allowing just 58.4 (+22.3). UDM is shooting just under 50% from the field hitting 405-of-812 shots (40.98%), and is outrebounding its opponents by just under 10 a game (40.1-30.7).

The home winning streak is currently tied for the seventh longest in the nation and is the most for UDM since it set a school record with 17 consecutive victories, rolled up during the 1985-86 and 1986-87 seasons.

In Detroit's history, the Titans have now compiled seven home winning streaks of 11 games or more.

MORE ON CALIHAN MAGIC

UDM is also 43-22 in Calihan Hall since head coach Autumn Rademacher returned to her alma mater in 2008.

In 35 years of play in the Motor City, the Titans have enjoyed a 271-143 (.634) home court record.
