Halabi Chosen To Attend Leadership Forum

DETROIT (2/19/2013) – Raina Halabi, a junior on the Detroit women's tennis team, has been invited to attend a training session on the National Issues Forum's deliberative dialogue “Shaping Our Future: How Should Higher Education Help Us Create the Society We Want?”, to take place at The University of Michigan on Thursday.

"It's truly an honor to be nominated to represent our University at this event," said Halabi. "I look forward to making a difference in our community and this leadership conference will help me do that."

Halabi is a three-time honoree on the UDM Athletic Director's Honor Roll and was named an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar Athlete as well as being named to the Horizon League Spring Academic Honor Roll in 2012.

She also was the driving force behind a campus-wide recycling effort in October, 2012.

The training session is designed to prepare student leaders on a variety of campuses to facilitate deliberative dialogues on issues regarding higher education. The forum will address critical questions arriving in modern-day higher education, such as:

-What are some concerns about the rising cost of higher education?
-Are the nation's colleges and universities doing a good job preparing students for the future?
-How does higher education benefit society as a whole?

This is a project in partnership with the Kettering Foundation.
