Brown, Reynolds & Shayok Earn Horizon League Honors

HLN Announcement

INDIANAPOLIS (3/11/2013) --
Senior Yar Shayok was named the Horizon League Sixth Player of the Year, sophomore Shareta Brown was tabbed All-HL First Team and freshman Rosanna Reynolds was selected to the All-Newcomer squad as the conference announced its women's basketball postseason awards live on the Horizon League Network on Monday afternoon.

In addition to being named the Sixth Player of the Year for the second-straight season, Shayok was also voted to the HL All-Defensive Team for the second time in her career (2011).

Shayok is third on the team in scoring (9.1) and second on the squad and fifth in the HL in rebounding (8.6).  She started 16 of the 28 games she appeared in, but came off the bench for most of conference play starting just four. She had seven double-doubles on the year, with four coming off the bench. She is also sixth in the conference in blocks (0.9) with her 24 total tied for the third most in the league, while her 25 steals is second on the team.

Brown was also named All-Horizon League First Team for the second-straight year and is only the fourth Titan in school history to receive two All-Conference first team honors. She tops the Titans and is third in the HL and 17th in the nation in scoring at 20.3 ppg., while ranking first in the conference and sixth in the nation in field-goal percentage (57.9%). She is also third in the conference in rebounding at 9.3 per night, while her 4.1 offensive rebounds per game leads the league. She has four 30-point efforts on the year, 11 20-point performances, 25 double-digit scoring outings, and 13 double-doubles.

Reynolds had a steady rookie season in taking over the point guard duties for Detroit and is fourth in the HL with 4.2 assists per game and fifth in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.7), top 100 in the country in both categories. She has 18 games on the year with four or more assists, including a season-high nine against Cleveland State, and has been in double digits in scoring nine times with a career-high 20 at Wright State. She also hardly ever came off the court averaging a team-best 35.2 minutes per game, sixth in the league.
