The Warming Center of St. Peter and Paul Jesuit Church
Collection Items
DETROIT (3/14/13) --The University of Detroit Mercy Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and Detroit Titan Athletics will be collecting items for the homeless at all home, regular season sporting events this year as UDM will partner with The Warming Center of St. Peter and Paul Jesuit Church.
The collection will start this weekend with the women's lacrosse game at Noon against Campbell at Titan Field.
The community initiative is focused on bringing attention to homelessness and addiction in the city of Detroit. Collection bags will be located with event programs at all spring sporting events. Future spring sports home events can be found at
DetroitTitans.com.
Along with the spring goods collection, SAAC will hold a two week backpack drive at the end of the second semester from April 13th – 27th. The goal is to collect one hundred backpacks to donate to the Warming Center for those in need.
The Warming Center, under the direction of Br. Denis Weber, SJ, is located within St. Peter and Paul Jesuit Church and provides a welcoming safe haven for all guests. Their mission is to provide mutual service to all neighbors, many of who live on the street, and whose realities include addiction, grief, shame, fear, impoverishment, and/or mental impairment.
Items in need for the Warming Center are gloves, scarves, winter hats, new athletic socks, new underwear, shampoo, body wash, toothbrushes, cream cheese, coffee, tea, sugar and cream.
