Finals Voting Open Through April 1 at www.facebook.com/DunksoftheYear
CHICAGO (3/25/13) – University of Detroit Mercy senior forward
Doug Anderson's acrobatic reverse alley-oop vs. Temple on Feb. 28 is a finalist for the Pepsi MAX Dunk of the Year, Intersport announced today (Monday, March 25). For two weeks, four rim-rattling dunks were nominated for Pepsi MAX Dunk of the Year. Two winners from each week were determined by fan voting through the official Pepsi MAX Dunks of the Year Facebook page (
www.facebook.com/dunksoftheyear). The four finalists will now compete in a weeklong Finals Round to determine the Pepsi MAX Dunk of the Year. The winner will be announced during the 2013 State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships at 7:00 p.m. ET on April 4 on ESPN.
Anderson has been throwing down magnificent dunks his entire collegiate career and this powerful reverse alley-oop was no different. Late in the first half vs. Temple, the senior ran a perfect two-man game with point guard
P.J. Boutte. Boutte used an Anderson screen at the top of the key while Anderson slipped to the basket. Boutte lofted a pass toward the hoop and Anderson did the rest. He seemed to pause in mid-air as he reached out for the ball, turned and slammed home the reverse finish.
The finals of Pepsi MAX Dunk of the Year pit Anderson against three other unbelievable dunks, including: a powerful posterization by Louisville's Chane Behanan, a sky-high alley-oop by High Point's John Brown and a rim-rocking slam by Baylor's Cory Jefferson.
