DETROIT (4/11/13) --
Sophomore Shareta Brown's record-breaking year was recognized nationally as the second-year forward was named a Fullcourt.com Honorable Mention Mid-Major All-American.

Brown was one of just three players from the Horizon League named to the list with Green Bay's Adrian Ritchie and Youngstown State's Brandi Brown also earning honorable mention status.

Brown helped lead Detroit to a Women's Basketball Invitational Championship (WBI), a second-straight winning season and the most wins (21-13) since 1997. The WBI Championship was the first postseason tournament title for Detroit since 1981 when the Titans won the State-Large College Tournament. It was also the first time UDM has posted back-to-back 20-win campaigns since they had four-straight years between 1978-82.

Brown broke not only her own UDM record, but the Horizon League record with 714 points this season in averaging 21.0 ppg., second in the HL and 13th in the country. She became just the second Titan to ever average 20 points in a season, trailing only Hall-of-Famer Cassandra Pack's 22.2 ppg., in 1987.

She was top 10 in the Horizon League in a number of stats, including leading the conference and finishing third in the nation in field-goal percentage (59.2%). She was also third in the HL in rebounding (9.3) and 11th in free-throw percentage (71.3%). Brown posted six 30-point games on the season to lead the league and was tied for second with 16, 20-point outings and tied for third tallying 16 double-doubles.

Brown was named All-Horizon League First Team for the second-straight year and is only the fourth Titan in school history to receive two All-Conference first team honors. She was the WBI MVP after averaging 28.0 points and 10.3 rebounds to go with shooting 64.7% from the field (33-of-51), a perfect 4-of-4 from three and 89.4% at the free throw line (42-of-47) in the four-game tournament. She also handed out eight assists and had four steals.

She ended her sophomore year ninth in school history in both scoring (1,325) and rebounding (615).
