Six Titans Earn Horizon League Winter Academic All-League Honors

INDIANAPOLIS (4/22/13) -- The Horizon League announced its Winter Academic All-League teams and six Titans were recognized. Five members of the indoor track and field team in Taylor Hennrick, Chris Smalley and Bob Radlich from the men's side and Katrina Oberski and Sara Taylor from the women's team in addition to Ray McCallum from men's basketball were all honorees.
 
75 Horizon League student-athletes were recognized as balloting was conducted by the League's faculty athletics representatives and sports information directors as the League continues to recognize student-athletes for their success both in competition and in the classroom.
 
The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal Academic All-League Teams in each of its 19 championship sports. To be eligible for Academic All-Horizon League consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale) and have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits.
 
McCallum, the Horizon League Player of the Year, helped lead the Titans to their second-straight postseason berth with a trip to the NIT. The Detroit Country Day product led the league in scoring with 18.7 points per game, while also leading the team in assists (4.5 apg) and steals (1.9 spg) for the second-straight season. The junior collected accolades throughout the postseason, including Lute Olson All-America Team honors and a place on the NABC District 12 First Team. The junior was the first player since fellow Titan Rashad Phillips in 2000-01 to earn both Horizon League preseason and postseason Player of the Year honors. McCallum has a cumulative 3.49 GPA and is a communications major earning his second Winter Academic All-League appearance.
 
Hennrick is in the physician assistant program at UDM with a cumulative 3.72 GPA making the team for the first time. During the indoor season, he improved on his own Titan record in the heptathlon at the Horizon League Indoor Championships placing second with 4480 points. He also placed first in the heptathlon for the Youngstown State Invitational earning 4228 overall points.
 
Smalley was part of the distance medley relay team that placed second and also helped the 4x400 meter relay team capture fourth place at the Indoor Championships on Feb. 23-24. He also ran the mile in a time of 4:38.69 placing sixth at the Notre Dame Blue and Gold Invitational. Smalley, an engineering major, returns to the Winter Academic All-League team for the second straight year with a 3.99 GPA.

Radlich was also part of the distance medley relay team that placed second at the Horizon League Indoor Championships at the end of February.  He had an individual finish of second at the IPFW Quadrangular timing in at 1:59.66 in the 800 meter race. He also set personal records in the mile run at Grand Valley State with a time of 4:16.44 and then again in the 5000 meters at the Notre Dame Blue and Gold Invitational clocking in at 15:16.65. Radlich earns Winter Academic All-League team status for the first time. He has earned his undergraduate degree in business with a concentration in finance and is now pursuing his MBA with finance concentration. He has a cumulative GPA of 3.67.
 
On the women's side, Oberski makes her second straight Winter Academic All-League appearance. She was part of the distance medley relay team that placed fourth at the Horizon League Indoor Championships. She also set a new personal-best at the IPFW Quadrangular in the 3000 meters coming in second at 10:31.87. She added another PR in the mile run at the Youngstown State Invitational clocking in at 5:18.15. She has 3.86 GPA and is in the nursing program.
 
Taylor is the youngest and is making her first appearance as a member of the team as a sophomore. She is a biochemistry major with a GPA of 3.77. She helped the Titans score at the Horizon League Indoor Championships running with the distance medley relay team that came in fourth. She also had three other personal-bests she established during the indoor season running the 800 meters (2:22.36) at the Youngstown State Invitational, the 1000 meters (3:04.86) at the Windsor Team Challenge and also in the mile run (5:18.30) at the Grand Valley State meet.
