INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (4/9/13) – Detroit women's tennis player Irina Slizovskaya was named Horizon League Player of the Week after going 3-0 in both singles and doubles over the weekend.
 
"Irina played great tennis this week and her hard work at practice really paid off," said head coach Pjotrs Necajevs. "She stuck to the game play and made adjustments when she needed to and came away with a huge win that helped us defeat UIC."

Slizovskaya earned a, 5-7, 6-2, 6-3, win at UIC on Saturday to help the Titans snap the Flames streak of 146-consecutive conference victories. She dropped only three sets outside of that match, defeating IUPUI (4/5) in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, and a win at Valparaiso (4/7), 6-1, 6-0. All three wins came at third singles.
 
She was a perfect 3-0 at second doubles over the three-match stretch, working with Nino Sujashvili to take their doubles matches at UIC, 8-4, and at Valpo, 8-3. She teamed with Julia Fernandes to earn a win at IUPUI, 8-4.

This is Slizovskaya's first award of her career.
 
UDM will be back in action when it returns to Detroit for back-to-back conference matches against Green Bay (4/19) and Milwaukee (4/20).
