DETROIT (5/14/2013) -- One of the best Canadian players in Titan history just graduated in
Yar Shayok and today, head coach Autumn Rademacher has decided to go back across the border for another Canadian with the signing of
Tayla Gibb (Toronto, Ont./ Eastern Commerce C.I.) to a National Letter of Intent. Gibb will enter UDM as a freshman with four years of eligibility.
“Tayla is a very versatile post player who is athletic, runs the floor well, and can hit the outside jump shot,” said Coach Rademacher. “She is extremely coachable, has an incredible work ethic and her attitude on and off the court is tremendous.”
Gibb – a team captain as a senior - helped the Eastern Commerce Lady Saints to three-straight 4A city championships (2010-13) and three-straight Ontario Federation of School Athletic Association (OFSAA) appearances.
The 6-1 forward guided her squad to a Sheridan Tournament title in the 2011-2012 season and was named the MVP for the SBA Hoopdome tournament in 2012-2013. She also participated in the GTA All-Star game in 2013.
“She has an unlimited upside and we are thrilled to add her to the Detroit Titan family,” added Coach Rademacher.
Detroit is coming off back-to-back 20-win seasons going 21-13 on the year as well as making the postseason for the second-straight year as the Titans won the World Basketball Invitational (WBI), their first tournament title since 1981. The 21 wins also marked the most UDM has posted since 1997.
