2013 USILA Scholar All-Americans
PERRY, N.Y. (5/20/2013) -- Senior
Jordan Houtby left a legacy on the field as the current record holder in caused turnovers, but today, Houtby was recognized for his efforts in the classroom as the Titan LSM was named to the 2013 Scholar All-American Team by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA).
Houtby was the only member of the MAAC on this year's team as the recent May graduate posted a 3.215 GPA in business with a concentration in marketing.
On the lacrosse field, Houtby appeared in 61 games – tied for the most in Titan history – and recorded 158 caused turnovers and 289 ground balls. With the NCAA adding caused turnovers as a recognized statistic in 2010, Houtby is the current all-time leader in that category, while his 289 GB's is fifth among active Division I players.
He also registered nine goals and five assists for 14 career points with two of his goals game winners, including the lone marker in the fourth period of UDM's 9-8 victory over Marist in the 2011 MAAC Championship Semifinals, the first-ever postseason win for the Titans.
The award adds to the Titans' overall academic accolades for the season as Detroit led the MAAC with 18 All-Academic Team selections.
In 1989 the USILA Scholar All-America Program was established to recognize student-athletes from USILA member institutions who have distinguished themselves academically, athletically and as citizens of their communities. The USILA Selection Committee selects an overall team representing Division I, II and III. The Scholar All-Americas are recognized at the annual Lacrosse All-America Banquet.
