DETROIT (7/15/13) – Former University of Detroit Mercy forward Eli Holman recently signed with Usak Sportif of the Turkish Basketball League for the 2013-14 season. Holman, who just played for the Boston Celtics in the 2013 NBA Summer League in Orlando, is coming off his first professional season in Israel.
Holman, who averaged 3.5 points and 4.3 rebounds per game for the Celtics in the Summer League, averaged 18.8 points and 9.4 rebounds per game with the Hapoel Eilat of the Israel Winner League. Holman finished his rookie campaign with 12 double-doubles in 36 games.
Holman – who graduated from UDM with a bachelor's degree in communications - was a big part of the Titan turnaround and a Horizon League championship and NCAA Tournament appearance. He transferred to Detroit from Indiana University in 2008, but sat out that year due to NCAA transfer rules as the Titans finished in last place for the second-straight year. From that point on, Detroit made its rise to the top culminating by winning the Horizon League Championship and earning a No. 15 seed in the 2012 NCAA Tournament.
He averaged 11.5 points and 8.6 rebounds per game in his three years with the Titans, while shooting 61 percent from the field. He also ended his collegiate career with 163 blocks in the Motor City, a number that stands second in school history. He totaled 29 double doubles and earned such accolades as selections to the Horizon League All-Newcomer Team, the HL All-Defensive Team as well as the League's Sixth Player of the Year.
