With just under a month left before the start of the school year, DetroitTitans.com recently caught up with Rosanna Reynolds of the women's basketball team to see what the sophomore guard has been up to over the summer.
How have summer workouts been going so far?
They've been very productive and the team has grown a lot since the first day we got on campus. I feel with the workouts we are doing, we are becoming stronger individually and as a team.
Other than team practices, what kind of workouts are you doing in order to get ready for your sophomore year?
I've been trying to get a good number of shots up and have been working on my moves to help out with scoring more this year.
Looking back at last year at this time, can you remember what you were thinking about during summer workouts and just a month before your first college class?
I was feeling pretty good about last year before school. I was really excited to start something new with school and basketball. The workouts were fun with open gym and always having access to a basketball and a gym was nice too! Although, I couldn't wait to get some vacation time before school started.
What are your personal expectations as well as the team's expectations this season?
Personal expectations are to continue being mentally tough, but taking it to another level. After one year under my belt, I feel I know where I can be during the season and I want to continue to move up on that ladder. I also want to be more of a role model. As for team expectations, we really emphasize defense so we plan to be a tough nosed, in shape, charge taking defensive squad. We always want to have the goal of getting a Horizon League championship in our minds and finishing high in the league. We expect to be a new team that loves to run up and down.
You were a track and field star in high school, do you miss that at all just focusing on basketball at Detroit?
I definitely missed track especially not going right into it after basketball was over. After doing nine years of track, I actually went out on the track once the season was done and did workouts and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Have you been able to enjoy the summer at all off the court?
I went out to San Francisco at the end of May to visit my boyfriend's brother and sister-in-law and I had a blast. I visited Google's campus, Alcatraz, walked across the Golden Gate Bridge, took a trip to Napa, and went to a San Francisco Giants baseball game. Throughout the weekends during the summer, I've been to my family's cottage to swim and tube on the lake with all my cousins and brothers.
Are you an amusement park/carnival type person or is just going to the beach/pool a perfect day in the summer for you?
Definitely both. I love roller coasters. I could do it all day especially if there aren't any lines. I love the beach, but I definitely need to be active when I go. Jet skiing or boating is a must. As for the pool, there needs to be some football throwing or water volleyball happening.
With just a few weeks left in the summer, what is something you really want to get done before school starts up again?
I want to get pampered before the school year. I want to get my hair cut, nails and toes done, and get a much needed massage. Of course, I want to continue to keep my fitness up for the preseason.
No one wants to look ahead but what is your major and what are your goals after college?
Right now I am in the 5-year MBA program. I'm not sure what aspect of business I'm going into though. As for my goals, I want to find a place to work I will like and do a lot of traveling while I am still young.
