DETROIT (8/22/13) – The University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team completed its 2013 recruiting class today (Thursday, Aug. 22) as head coach Ray McCallum announced the signing of 6-7, 185-pound Paris Bass (Birmingham, Mich./Seaholm High School) to a National Letter of Intent.
"He is a very athletic player who can score, rebound, and block shots, plus he comes from a winning program," said McCallum. "He is a true student of the game that is capable of playing many positions and using his length on the defensive end to cause problems in the passing lanes, which is a big asset in this league."
Bass, a three-star recruit by Rivals.com, averaged 23.4 points and 12.4 rebounds per game as a senior for the Seaholm Maples, who finished 16-6 overall and reached the second round of the MHSAA playoffs. Bass was named to both the 2013 Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan (BCAM) All-State Team and the Detroit News All-Metro North first team.
Bass also made a huge impact at the 2013 Under Armour Summer Jam while playing with his AAU team the Michigan Warriors.
Bass reportedly received scholarship offers from Ball State, Florida International, Illinois State, Louisiana Tech, Oakland, Rhode Island, and Toledo, while also getting looks from Arkansas, UConn, Iowa State and Memphis.
Bass completes an impressive 2013 recruiting class for Detroit that consists of Matthew Grant (Los Angeles, Calif./Westchester High School), Patrick Onwenu (Detroit, Mich./Highland Community College), Jarod Williams (Danville, Va./George Washington High School) and Patrick Ackerman (Rutland, Mass./Penn State).
The Titans are coming off a season in which they made the NIT for the seventh time in school history after finishing second in the Horizon League. Detroit finished the year 20-13 overall, its third 20-win season in the past four years.
