With just under one month left before the start of the school year, DetroitTitans.com recently caught up with DaVonna Bradford of the women's basketball team to see what the sophomore forward has been up to over the summer.

As a sophomore with a year under your belt, what were your main goals during summer workouts?
Knowing that I didn't play much last year, this summer I worked on getting stronger considering I am an undersized post player. I also worked on ball handing a lot since I know that I will need a first quick step on most of my opponents and lastly I worked on my mid-range shot to get it more consistent.

Not many people can say they won a championship as a freshman, how was that experience last season?
It was an amazing experience. I also won a championship my freshman year of high school, but winning a championship at the collegiate level was even better, especially with this amazing group of girls.

What are some of the things you learned as a freshman and what are your expectations going into the season coming out of summer workouts?
I learned that playing at the collegiate level is much faster than in high school and I learned that it requires a lot of time management with juggling basketball and school. My expectations this year is to contribute to the team both vocally and physically, especially when it comes to rebounding because I know we're a small team.

What have you done to enjoy the summer off the court?
I've spent a lot of time with my boyfriend and his family who I met last year here at UDM and went to Frankenmuth and Birch Run Outlet to do some shopping but I didn't go on any real vacations or do any traveling. I have really spent all summer here at school taking classes and working on my game.

Growing up in Ohio, I am sure you visited Cedar Point a time or two. What are some of the thrills that you have went on there or at any amusement park?
Yes. I've been on almost every roller coaster at Cedar Point and I love the thrill of the rides. My favorite ride there is the Millennium Force because I love the feeling of my stomach dropping.

What are you majoring in and what are you looking to do after college?
I am a nursing major and later in life, I hope to work back home in one of the best hospitals to take care of people, which I love to do.
